My partner of 20 years left me 2 weeks ago. I'm still in the house, but he bought it before we met, and I'm not on the mortgage. Ive not paid anything towards the mortgage as I was unable to work for the first 14 years due to his job and finances. What do I do?

See a solicitor.

Not married? Any kids? Are you in the UK? You can see a solicitor, but you might be entitled to nothing.

CarrieBlu · 03/12/2018 08:04

Definitely see a solicitor. His job stopping you working is a strange one!

Aaron110101 · 03/12/2018 08:37

He's a chef, so he worked split shifts, 10-2 then 5-11 including weekends so I was unable to get any kind of job. It was no financially viable as he earnt to much get get any kind of help for child care.

If children are involved Carrie it's not strange at all, especially when they are young. If the OP were married then her contribution raising the children would be taken into account.

No we are not married, we do have a son who is now 17 and is still in the house with me. I'm currently unemployed as wit with a agency on zero contract hours.

You need some proper advice but be prepared to hear that you're entitled to nothing as you were not married.

festivedramallama · 03/12/2018 10:36

If you’re not married then you are unlikely to be entitled to anything. You need to see a solicitor.

Notacluethisxmas · 03/12/2018 10:40

You need to see a solicitor. No one can tell you. But it's likely the house will be his and you won't see anything of it.

You'll be entitled to roughly 15% of his salary for roughly a year. Maybe a bit longer if your son stays in education

First answer in Google:

"Unmarried couples do not enjoy the same rights as married couples on separation, but they are able to make claims in relation to property whether jointly owned or owned by one party. Claims can also be made for financial provision for the children of unmarried couples."

See a solicitor, or at least try Citizens Advice Bureau.
