radiator BTU disappointing

Warning: be generous with your BTU when calculating what a room needs.
I have just had two radiators installed, in two different rooms. I calculated the BTU very precisely, and now the radiators have been installed, both rooms never warm up, they just "take the edge off". The system has been thoroughly flushed, all the radiators have been thoroughly bled; they get hot, they just don't warm the room; the boiler is working the same temperature as previously, except now its working much longer hours for much less effect.

I'm devastated! I've spent all the money on whats been done and so I don't have the money to upgrade my new, rubbish, radiators.

Be warned! be generous in your BTU measurements. You can always turn a radiator down with the TRV, but once its at maximum on the TRV, you can't turn it up higher than that!

Yes I made a similar mistake, not as bad. I calculated BTUs & then added maybe 10% as I feel the cold. The room is never cold but it’s never too hot if that makes sense & it’s a small room. I’m about to replace another radiator in the living room & Im going to go for maximum btus.

Can I ask how much it was to flush the system?

We paid for this, but it hasn't worked. Plumber is now saying we need to pay for a 'proper flush'. I gather the one he dod was improper!

BTUs are a nightmare. Read the small print very carefully. I think some websites state the BTUs at 50 degrees, some 60, some 65. Bestheating comes up high in Google searches but it states the output at 65 degrees IIRC, so they will be less powerful in operation than one that claims the same BTUs on a different website at T50 or T60.

I thought there would be a standard temp at which BTUs should be stated - in fact I think there probably is, but not everyone uses is.

Always go bigger than needed did you add extra for windows external walls etc. Are the single or double radiators? If singles then swap them for doubles no extra pipe work required and almost doubles the btu for not a lot of cost.

We’ve just had new radiators and I went ott on BTUs. Eg dining room needed just under 3000, so I bought a triple that is rated at 5100. Nothing worse than heating being on and not feeling like it is!

I made exactly the same mistake! Calculated the BTUs. Bought radiators. Bedrooms never really get that warm and the radiators are on max. The bedrooms aren’t cold, but not toasty warm. Luckily I didn’t replace downstairs so that’s toasty.
