How to mask damp smell

We have just moved into a project house. It's very damp and the carpets are old! We're going to rip it out and replace them a little later. We're working on sorting the damp issues as well, but in the meantime everything's quite smelly. What can I do to make it smell a bit fresher? Plug ins? Anything else? I don't want anything overpowering, just something fresh smelling. Thank you.

dry it and ventilate it.

Would it be worth getting the carpets cleaned? They probably aren't helping with the smell if they are musty.

heating
ventilation
dehumidifier
removal of any damp carpets or curtains

don't mask it. flowery damp isn't really pleasant.

We had the carpet shampooed. Lots better but still damp. We have dehumidifiers running in every room 24/7 (apart from while we sleep). Washing the curtains is a good shout. The current weather doesn't help!

Zofloras good and isn't just floral, I like the fresh linen and twilight garden ones but there's loads. Dilute and spray over fabrics, you can also clean hard surfaces with it

try to find the source of damp. Water doesn't spontaneously generate. IME it is usually due to plumbing or rainwater leaks, but people who sell chemical treatments won't tell you that.

Have a look under the carpets for damp patches, especially on concrete floors, and, for wooden floors, take a few boards up and put your head in for a look and a sniff.

Is there a water meter?

Shake and vac.

That puts the freshness back.

We had the same also add some house plants and activated charcoal helped to remove the smell.

I'd get rid of the carpets now. Better floorboards than damp carpet. Carpet holds smells badly.
