Tried three times to post this and getting fed up now...

Away to paint a cabinet, it's textured wood and it's grey. Google tells me I need to sand, paint and seal. I'm hoping to do chalk paint

Any tips tricks to make life easier would be hugely appreciated

You don't need to sand for chalk paint. But if you do a quick rub down with some sanding paper will do it.

For sealing either use a wax or a clear matt varnish.

Chalk paint is a doddle to use. First coat looks a bit odd, then it smooths to a perfect finish on the second.

Decant some of the chalk paint into a pot and put the lid back on the chalk paint. If you leave it open and keep dipping your brush in it I always feel like it starts to get a bit thicker.

Test an area first so paint a bit that no-one will see, if the paint feel too thick, thin it with a little bit of water.

Chalk paint is fantastic for not needing a ridiculous amount of prep work. But do give the cabinet a good clean first with sugar soap, light sand as Bluntness says and off you go.

I've painted a ton of stuff with chalk paint, I don't seal it, because I'm aware the seal will need to be possibly removed to paint it again. However it does chip if it's a high usage thing, so you might just want to seal parts of it.
