Could someone critique a drawing of my kitchen please?

I am having a replacement kitchen as a result of an insurance claim. this is what has been suggested, I am trying to think if there is any better way of using the space than has been suggested - the position of the cooker is fairly fixed (due to electrical connections) it can move a foot or so either way but thats it.

any views welcomed please!

Have you considered making the remaining bottom cupboards into deep drawers with potential for inner drawers? It makes getting things out and seeing what is in there much easier. I would also have a think if you need as many thin drawers on either side of your oven and if the bottom ones might be better as deeper drawers.

Silkie2 · 27/11/2018 12:17

Where is sink ? Is that fridge on left?

womanhuman · 27/11/2018 12:17

Where is sink/fridge etc ?

BrieAndChilli · 27/11/2018 12:22

where will your sink be?

Baxdream · 27/11/2018 13:27

I can't cope with the oven/hood not being central 🙈
I'd agree with pan drawers - they are brilliant. I'd change both sides to pan drawers at the bottom. I'm guessing this is howdens as it looks like mine. They definitely do a set of three drawers , the bottom being a pan drawer

Have you seen the pull down cupboard insides... It means you can have large units on the wall or have them higher....

Hang on will find the link

sorry sink is on other side of kitchen, as is fridge, that is basically staying as it is so I don't have a drawing of it.

I am not sure about more drawers I am a bit old fashioned and prefer cupboards but ones that are big enough, the 300 cupboards I had before were too small to be any use!

kitchen has to come from howdens (I should have said this, sorry) so I am limited to what they do, plus it has to be similar to my old kitchen. I cant remember if I had 3 or 4 drawers annoyingly but I should be able to get deeper drawers I think.

The cooker was in the middle before but I don't think I can do that without having the 300 cupboards again.

However I'm not sure I can live with it being offcentre!

If you do most preparation by sink can you have a full height cupboard with shelves on door and inside so you don't then need the wall cupboards. Could go on right of job, then hob could go across the corner or full height cupboard could go on left.

Cornishclio · 27/11/2018 16:54

Our new kitchen is from Howdens. We have gone for deep drawers rather than bottom cupboards as it is easier to see what is inside them rather than scrabbling round on knees in back of cupboards. I love them.

QOD · 27/11/2018 17:01

I’m having all drawers other than under the oven and sink
Bloody love my giant drawers in current kitchen but wish I’d got the other 5 cupboards as drawers.

Cornishclio · 27/11/2018 17:05

We went for 900 wide deep pan drawers and keep cutlery in top one. Cooking utensils in middle one and saucepans/frying pans in bottom one. They are great and hold so much more than the shallow drawers. Mind you our ovens are in a tower and the drawers are under our hob. I would definitely change the drawers to deeper ones at least.

Fresta · 27/11/2018 17:13

Offcentre doesn't bother me. What about the big base cupboard on the left hand side? Does it go into the corner- if so you can make better use of the space by having a pull-out lemans unit in there.

I'd also consider extending the wall units to the ceiling to create more storage.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 27/11/2018 17:58

Seriously think about the deep drawers. We got a new kitchen last year and have a 1m unit with two big drawers and one inner drawer. These drawers swallow everything that's used on a daily basis - from cutlery to plates, mugs, glasses and pots and pans. It's all really easy to access.

Baxdream · 27/11/2018 19:04

Totally agree. I have bread/pasta in drawers and condiments/sauces etc. Along with pans too.
My shallow drawers are for cutlery, utensils and a herb drawer (amazing)

Baxdream · 27/11/2018 19:04

Oh and my plates, bowls etc! I have quite a few drawers 😂

kitchenemergency · 27/11/2018 22:23

The problem I have is I've not been given a full list I've got the drawing and another sketch - what I really need is like a parts list so I can see what sizes all the cupboards are as that's not on the drawing.

I can't have cupboards up to the ceiling as our extractor is vented to the side running along above the right hand wall cupboards.

There are 2 corner cupboards upper and lower but again he's not given me the details. Id like to get one of those corner cupboard pull out things. My main thing is I need cupboards for plates, the wall cupboards are too shallow and plates don't fit.

I'm not sure I want loads of drawers but I do want at least some deep ones.

I have everything in drawers except food which is in tall cupboard and cleaning stuff under sink.

wowfudge · 28/11/2018 06:34

We have three sets of drawers in our kitchen and all the crockery is in them. Much easier to see what you have and to get things out.

Longdistance · 28/11/2018 06:41

I have deep pan drawers, the top one has an internal cutlery drawer. It’s like magic Grin

OliviaBenson · 28/11/2018 06:48

Sorry to say this but.........

.......,.Pan draws! We have 2 sets, one wide and one narrow. The narrower ones contain all the plates- far better than in a cupboard. You have 8 drawers in that plan but all shallow - what would you use them for?

I'd centre up the over and have drawers either side which leaves you a corner cupboard.

Tralalaatralalee · 28/11/2018 06:55

Personally I had blind corner ccupboards. I much prefer L shaped.

Also if you have 300 cupboards you can get metal pull out drawers. Mine are from Argos and really useful for cooking spices.

Tralalaatralalee · 28/11/2018 06:56

Oops. *hate blind corner cupboardsofa. Not had.

BubblesBuddy · 28/11/2018 08:57

My initial reaction was that the wall cupboards are differing sizes. It looks old fashioned and mis matched.

It’s very easy to move electrics for a cooker. They just put the wiring behind the cupboards or put it in the wall.

I assume you can measure your kitchen and see what will fit in. Have a play around. Pan and crockery drawers are better but I have glassware in cupboards - with glass doors. This makes the kitchen feel less slabby. It makes it lighter and more pleasant to look at.

They seem to have allowed for a 900 wide oven and extractor. Is this correct? Can the extractor ducting go out beteeen the ceiling and the floor above so it doesn’t affect what wall cupboards you can have? I would centre the hob and oven and make sure the draws and cupboards are symmetrical. Or, leave it as it is and have a tall storage unit on the left. You can get 300 wide ones that pull out. This looks like no one has given much thought to making the best use of space.

TroysMammy · 28/11/2018 09:06

Couldn't you have the ducting behind a mini cupboard? I have an internal soil pipe from bathroom to drain and had a narrow cupboard built which is perfect for herb and spice jars.

I would agree with pan and utensil drawers next to the cooker but would have a cutlery drawer next to a sink. Putting away cutlery is a pet hate of mine. It almost gives me the creeps walking with it to the other end of my kitchen (3 cupboards away).
