Stone baths - Lusso stone etc

Does anyone have any wisdom to share ? Considering Lusso stone bath - they look lovely but they appear to be imported from China and there are wait times for shipments.

Clearwater seem to be reduced on many sites - now to a similar price and I wonder whether these would be a safer bet. Longer warranty. But not that lovely matt finish....

Just want something freestanding, simple, no feet. TIA !

I'm assuming they're made out of stone, or stone resin?

If so the water goes cold quicker. I think it's called convection (although I left school a long time ago). Basically the stone pulls all the heat from the water until it reaches equilibrium temperature wise. The thicker the stone, the longer it takes to equalise.

They look nice, but are a bit impractical. Same with cast iron baths.

If you've got the money for a stone bath though maybe the hot water to top it up isn't an issue. They're certainly very fancy. :)

Presumably the first bath goes cold quicker, but the second stays warm longer as the stone holds the heat... so you just need to persuade someone to have baths before you do!

AbbyMCMLXXX · 26/11/2018 18:22

Haha, that's one way to do it! ;)

The matt finish attracts dirt and dust unfortunately and is a lot harder to keep clean. I would avoid it for a bath or shower personally. Various bathroom salespeople also said it gets grubby easily.

minipie · 26/11/2018 18:26

BUT they do do a polished finish so you can always get that.

We’ve chosen a Clearwater bath (Sontuoso) as we could try it in a showroom to check it was comfy. I was put off Lusso as you can’t try first and for baths that’s quite important

Don’t have a bath but I have lusso vanity sink unit, taps and shower etc. Lovely quality.

Thanks all for replies.

Definitely not living in a world where I have 'pre bath warmers' and limitless hot water use.... and def more in the world where I'll be scrubbing the tub....!!

Oct18mummy love your insta feed, beautiful bathroom - so does your bath go cold quickly?

Also possibly stupid question, but if you have a stone bath or sink and then a ceramic bath/sink/loo etc from a different range are the whites noticeably different?

I have samples of the Lusso stone material (matt and polished) and the matt is slightly yellower than white ceramic. The polished is very white like ceramic.

Thank you! Bath stays warm for ages well for the whole time I’m in it. We have matching matt sink but ceramic toilet I don’t really notice the difference

Hello, hoping that people on this thread will be notified of a new message🤞I am looking at stone resin (Lusso/other recommendations welcome) for our bathroom and I have a few questions for those of you that have these products...

  1. Polished or matte?
  • Is there any difference in cleaning them (harder/easier)?
  • Do they need to be cleaned immediately after use?
  • Is the matte more non-slip (I would guess yes, but wanted to check)?
  1. They are heavy...
  • Did you need to reinforce walls or floors (if so, how was this done)?
  1. Is there a long lead time?

Any help on answering theses questions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks 😊

Muststopeating · 16/03/2021 16:14

Can't answer much here but the lead time is definitely long. It took months to arrive. Their bath was 160kg but downstairs on concrete screed. Seem to rememeber reading (though am no expert) that reinforcements would likely be required upstairs.

Muststopeating · 16/03/2021 16:15

Sorry I managed to delete half of that... should have said 'friends of mine recently bought a Lusso stonh bath and...'

DobbieDoris I have a polished stone resin bath from Clearwater and a matte stone resin basin (as part of the Dorchester double vanity) from Lusso.

The Lusso matte basin is a PITA to be honest. It took forever to arrive (there were several delays, on top of the already long lead time, which had our builders tearing their hair out). It collects yellowed limescale in a ring around the plughole which is a very hard to remove. And it arrived with two small cracks around the other plughole, which didn’t show until they started to collect dirt, unfortunately this was well after installation so too late to return.

The Clearwater bath has not been a problem, short lead time (and was on sale), it’s polished so just as easy to clean as ceramic, and not heavy enough to require floor reinforcement. (Maybe due to more resin and less stone content?) I haven’t any experience of their matte finish.

I would advise against any bath shaped at all like the Lusso Picasso, Soho or Designo where the part you lean against is curved and/or nearly vertical. I tried a few of that shape in showrooms and they were incredibly uncomfortable. You want a bath where the backrest is straight and angled backwards.
