Bathroom leak - home insurance or not?

I don’t really understand how home insurance claims work but basically a tap has been left on in my downstairs bathroom and the floor/walls are soaked. I’m at the end of my maternity leave so money is really tight right now, is this something that would be worth a claim or should I wait and cope until we have saved to redo it ourselves?

Is there actual damage or will it look ok when it dries out?

And do you have accidental damage cover?

Worth looking into. With our bathroom leak the excess for that specific issue was £300, new flooring was less than that so we didn’t claim.

The flooring is laminate and the water was 2inches deep so that has bubbled and will definitely need replacing. I need to check the policy I guess and perhaps give them a ring to see what’s covered.

I would involve the insurance company - water travels a long way and you may find more than the flooring needs replacing as it dries out

Call them and they’ll talk you through what the policy will cover and if it is looking like it could be covered they’ll probably send a loss adjuster to assess the situation

Much simpler to just call, yes. It's not like car policies where you're legally obliged to involve them, so you don't need to pretend you're asking for a friend etc!
