Richmond (Ham) redevelopment - should I be concerned?

The council and housing partnership have agreed to turn 192 homes into 450, expanding a little, densely packing a lot, and tidying things up. It's very close to us and DW is dreading it, thinks property prices will plummet and the area will be filled with horrible people. I'm not worried at all, think it'll be great to have lots of new people and will make me feel safer walking through Ham Village Green at night. However, should I be worried? Have I missed something? Here's the official word and pretty artwork: www.hamclose.co.uk/

Try and be positive - might liven things up! Most of it will probably be shared ownership so youngish couples?

Horrible people? Even the lower middle class need to live somewhere

Somewhere between the two I would think.

Nothing you can do really. I object to this sort of thing as it actually damages a nice area when there are really many other places that could do with redevelopment - but the developers won't do it because it doesn't make them enough money and the Councils won't pay etc etc

Thanks, everyone, I don't object to the uplift at all, everyone needs somewhere to live and the existing flats are not great for the residents. Ham and Petersham need more life and younger people so I'm looking forward to the finished product. Hopefully, DW will come around to accepting the inevitable and maybe appreciate it in the end.

TBH, given the area, I suspect even the affordable accommodation will be unaffordable for most.

Yes, it's more people, but I suspect mostly young professionals who just don't have a huge family-inherited deposit. And all of whom will want improved local facilities - bars, restaurants etc.

I can see your concern, but I honestly wouldn't worry too much.

Hmm
