£200 dual fuel bill first month in new property...arrgh!!!

We have just moved in to a new property and it has wifi heating and underfloor (wet) heating. I was looking forward to 35% cheaper bills due to the underfloor heating but clearly I was misled. The first month the heating fired up at weird times and it turned out that the wifi controller was faulty. The company (Salus) sent us a new power cable to the wifi controller and I thought that that was the issue, but the heating doesn't seem to obey the controls from our app. Does anybody else have this problem?! I hark after the days when I could just turn a boiler off if I didn't want it on. This app/internet controlling thing clearly isn't working!!!

Sorry if this is really basic op but on the off chance you have the same thermostat as us... there's a sort of control panel near the boiler on the wall with two sliders..you need to make sure these are set right so they are communicating with the thermostat and not on manual/overriding the controls - I think they need to be on 'auto'. You know it's working when you whack up the desired temp on the app and the main controls will turn blue.
Also - check you don't have a water immersion heater which is permanently on.
That said we pay around 150 per month for a well insulated semi....

Even if people are paying, say, £150 a month for their gas and electricity, they'll be using more than that per month during the winter. By paying a constant sum every month, it's meant to balance out (you use less than £150 a month in the summer, but more than that in the winter). I don't think £200 is that terrible for a five-bed in winter if it's just based off usage as it'll presumably then be much less in the spring and summer when you aren't using the heating. If it's £200 a month year-round then that does seem high.

We have a hive. The batteries run out so you have to keep an eye on it and it sometimes loses connection so we've had one morning this week when the heating didn't come on! I love the touch screen control but it's less reliable than the old dial on the wall thermostat. You have my sympathy!

Hi Celebelly, yes, actual usage because I switched energy suppliers so it was a final bill based on actual usage.

Yes, MildMannered that is the type we have and I do think the problem is coming from there. When it is on Auto we should be able to control the heating by setting the thermostat, but it seems to be doing its own thing. I need to sit down and figure it out. Or get a heating engineer in. The tip about an immersion heater is good advice- I need to have a look. It's so annoying to move into a new house and not have proper user manuals left behind. The vendor handwrote some instructions...when I moved out my buyer inherited the manuals for every appliance in the house!
