Extension - days and days of hammering/banging

My neighbour is having her kitchen extended. She told me about it, said it would take a couple of months and all the polite stuff.

All fine until the last week. It's been hammering all day for days and days and days. I can't see the works, but I am just plain baffled as to what takes so much hammering. Can someone explain?

Nothing I can do, it's just one of those things. I work from home so it is disruptive, but I'm not complaining, it's more that if I knew what it was I wouldn't let it annoy me so much. Does that make sense?
A bit like if a neighbour has a loud party. If you know it's going to be finished by midnight it's easier to accept.

I could see if I got a periscope! Would that be weird?!

Why don’t you just ask her? Or maybe have a look at an extension vlog week by week on YouTube to see if you can work out which stage they might be at? :)

Just ask her. They could be taking all the plaster off the walls or cutting new channels for the wiring, or many other things.

Yes, I know I can ask her, just thought someone might know.

It is not pleasant I'm sure,
I bet she longing to finish the extension as well.
No harm speaking to her and pop in for an update and work together for a better schedule.
Make her aware of what you going through.
I suggest to pop in to a local coffee shop and use it as temporary base for work.
For you own sanity, the loud noise is a demolition part and it is the fast phase😀

I maybe didn't explain well. It is disruptive but I accept it. I really don't see how I can ask her about it w/o looking like I am complaining. I don't want her to feel uncomfortable.

The workmen always say hello and (thank goodness) don't listen to the radio all day.

Not if it's our neighbour's house! Honestly no idea what their builders are up to, seems they're STILL demolishing bits 7 months on.....the roof was supposed to be in by October. I think the brick in the cement mixer is the worst thing. Strangely the last month they've barely been here doing anything, but that's not my problem. I think the dust was the worst bit, worse than the noise. And the car door slam all summer at 6.50am. They come later or not at all now the clocks have changed.
I luckily work in the furthest side of our house, but agree trips to local pub for the WiFi are your saviour. I've had so many lunches out I've put on weight this summer (unusual), but I'm not complaining I've enjoyed it. I don't know if anyone does it in your area but there are shared workspaces you can rent quite cheaply, I find these are good to network and for a bit of company (WFH can be quite solitary). Otherwise headsets and a little light music can drown out Radio2 on loud and much of the general noise. You can get noise cancelling headphones, not cheap but I understand the Bose are the best. Have been tempted to buy some. Also, if you have to ring customers, go for a drive and do this from the car.

She hasn't demolished a thing - it's a small extension to the existing kitchen ie just new stuff.

I put ClassicFM on. It's not so noisy I can't hear my Skype calls (and they are colleagues not clients so it's informal).

I don't want noise cancelling earphones in case I do actually need to hear something!

It's not so bad I need to de-camp, I was mainly just curious.

Barking dogs are my trigger!
