Hi All

Holiday cottage in Yorkshire- doing a total Reno and having spotlights in bedrooms due to low ceilings. These beams are actually RSJs boxed in by pine stained darker- add to cottage feel in some ways but should I paint white?? Would it be better? It will be a holiday let so want to appeal to as many people as possible. Thanks in advance?

I was on Pinterest looking for inspiration for this very topic this afternoon! Have viewed a house where they look very like your kitchen. I had no idea sandblasting was an option, so thank you to the pp who suggested that!

@arelia I agree that they seem v sturdy. No doubt would look fine with new doors! I will post my kitchen when it's done so you can see what that looks like as I've basically kept the units in the same place.

@callmeadoctor what do you mean?! The strip light with flourescent glow and buzzing noise?! What's not to like!! Thankfully it's about to meet his end and I'm putting spot lights in

@takemetokernow glad we have inspired you a little! Hope your house viewings go well!

We have a mix here - stripped back original in a couple of rooms, an original but had been stained very dark beam which I eventually painted dark grey to compliment the furnishings looks so much better and dark original in the kitchen which I'm desperate to paint but DH won't hear if it and dark fake which I kind of like in that area (extremely high up!)

We have a quirky house so it all kind of 'goes' except the kitchen ones

Would definitely paint staircase and would love to see finished pics too please to convince DH

Hi @chishandfips33 I will definitely post finished pics. Have just returned from the cottage and it's currently a building site as moving one of the stud walls between the two bedrooms with the beams. It can only get better!
