AIBU to think all home insurers are basically the same...?

OK - home insurance - do all providers basically do the same thing, but with a slight variation in some aspects of their cover, or are there providers who you would definitely recommend because they have great cover/service or something that sets them apart from other providers? DH and I are about to fall out over this because he wants to go for a (much more expensive) insurer because my dad recommended it, whereas I have absolutely no faith in my dad's recommendation as he tends to get obsessed by things and bang on about them whether they're exceptional or not. After 30+ years' exposure to this I have slightly less faith in his opinions than my lovely husband.

I used to work for an insurance comparison company, there are different levels of cover. Google Defaqto rating, you can look into different insurance and their rating based on the cover they offer.

Insurance goes go up every year for no apparent reason they’ll say it’s based on crime rates or general stats. Really they’ll send you a renewal and hope you just pay it. Don’t kick off with them, be nice as pie and you can get the lowest price. They can always apply discount, don’t take their first offer. I always say I used to work in insurance what’s the best you can do or re broke me, or i’ll Leave. Simple. Cuts to the chase and they won’t bullshit you then. Wink

They are all different prices so compare covers ect and decide what you need.

There really are big differences. You do get what you pay for, but you need to be sore that you need what you are paying for.

Thank you. The provider with the cheaper quote has come out as 5* for their higher level insurance so we'll just go with them ;)
I knew Mumsnet would have the answer!
