Anyone got Ikea PAX wardrobes?

We are using 2 x Ikea PAX wardrobe frames to create a built in wardrobe in my daughters bedroom. This includes boxing the wardrobe frames in using a wooden frame and plaster boarding around the edges and above and then plastering up to the edge of the wardrobe so it looks like they are built into the wall. I've seen this done on the Ikea Hackers website and it looks great.

What i need to know is.......when we put the wardrobe doors on do the doors open in line with the wardrobe frames? I'm worried that if we plaster right up to the edge of the wardrobe it may hinder the doors opening in some way.

I will make a trip to Ikea if necessary to check this out but really cant be bothered with a toddler in tow (!!) so any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!!

Bumping this for you OP as I'm interested too Smile.

I think you'll be fine. I've just looked at mine and the doors don't swing out past the frame. There are sliding doors too for another option. Good luck!

No, it will be fine, the doors open within the frame.

We’ve done this and it’s fine the doors open within the frame as it were

PAX door in open position. I think you can see it doesn’t overlap the frame.

Hope this shows you how it opens

Although re reading your op our plaster board is flush with the edge of the frame not the edge of the door (we haven’t had to do anything above as they are literally a mm lower than the ceiling, was a tight fit!)

They do need a few mm of clearance to the side. Mine is hard against the wall and it rubs, slightly

Thanks for all the responses!
Yours look fantastic cowfacemonkey Smile I’m excited to get them done now (and relieved we don’t have to make the dreaded trip to ikea!!) Wink

Thanks I’m so pleased with how they turned out I plan to do the same in all the bedrooms. The amount of storage they give us and all the different internal layouts you can do are brilliant! Also glad we went for normal doors not sliding ones
