Does this quote sound right?

I'm in the process of getting some work done on my mothers old Victorian terraced house and have just received the following rough quote...

-Pointing the front of the house and plastering corresponding inside walls.
-Rebuilding the back wall (ground floor)
-Removal of internal wall (containing chimney breast) and make good both rooms (RSJ's and plastering)
-Replacing conservatory roof and doors, also new French doors from the kitchen
-All scaffolding and associated materials and plant hire

  • £21000 inc the vat

I have always rented so have no idea if this is ok? (I'm in the south west if that helps)

With out seeing it it's is impossible to say.
You need to get at least two more quotes- ask for recommendations from other people who have had work done.

Don't tell them how much you have already been quoted, and make sure it's all in writing, with exactly what you want done listed.
So: "Supply and fit new hardwood patio doors type x with brushed steel hardware. Finished with 3 coats exterior grade varnish = £xxx" not "Fit new patio doors = £???"

Make sure waste disposal is included as well, it can cost £££ and you will be amazed how much rubble comes out of even a small wall!

Others will be on with advice about price, as it’s impossible to say without knowing house size etc. I just wanted to add- have a bottomless contingency fund and you’ll be rightWink when you’re knocking walls (and particularly chimney breast) in a Victorian property the mess is like nothing you’ve ever experienced and inevitably they will then find issues with the old building. So even if your quote seems reasonable, be prepared for much more once they start hammering...Good luck with your project
