Heritage House survey

Anyone had a survey done by Heritage House/ Heritage Conservation? We’ve bought an old-ish house (1850s) that I think has been badly looked after, and I want to get someone who knows what they’re on about to tell us what to do to stop it falling down. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not crumbling about our ears, but it needs work and I want to get it right. I’ve seen the Heritage House blog mentioned on here quite a lot and found it a really interesting read. Does anyone have experience of their surveys? Or alternatively - how do I go about finding someone trustworthy to do this kind of survey? I can’t work out who to trust on the internet, and I’m a bit gullible TBH - hence having been immediately swayed by the passionate ranting on the HH blog!

I would go with someone local. If you are in an area where there are lots of old houses it's likely they will have local knowledge which is priceless IMO.

You can get a feel for how much they know about old houses and how experienced they are by just having a chat with them. Also ask them what sort of things they'd be looking at.

We found a local surveyor who has a qualification in old buildings /conservation from Rics. In fact we had a few choices locally as there are lots of old buildings in our area.

1850 wouldn't imo necessitate a specialist heritage survey. It's most of the housing stock around here. Have a look on the RICS find a surveyor website as a starting point.
