A slight name change for me, as I'm clearly not moving this year. Hmm Well, I am, but not into the house I'm buying.

Went to the development today, had a chat with the girls in the office & updated them. Hopefully we will be exchanging contracts next week should all go to plan. We found a nice house to rent, but its so bloody expensive I'm petrified! As long as we complete within our 6 month rental contract then all will be well, but if we don't then things will get ridiculously expensive! Confused

We’ve just had the official offer! What a relief!

I’m so sorry Neighbours, what a shitty situation.

Milly90 · 22/01/2019 19:02

@tulipsfromamsterdam how peculiar!! Is your house classes as sold subject to contract?

I have an update both bad and good...finally my buyers solicitors have been in touch and said that there is a "defect with the lease (house is leasehold) and they have contacted my buyers mortgage company to check how they wish to proceed!! My solicitor emailed back saying what specifically is the problem? Then tried to call them and he was fobbed off they said they would call him back again later but then nothing more ymto update!! No idea what this could be!! Loads of my neighbours have sold in the last 5 years and we all have the same lease!!! Aaarrrghhh Sad

Milly90 · 22/01/2019 19:04

Bloody hell @neighboursbedamned! Thats awful! Flowers
.glass of Gin needed xx

sandybayley · 22/01/2019 19:59

@Neighboursbedamned - that's awful. I'm not that keen on one set of neighbours (have always tried to be friendly but they just don't reciprocate) but things are civil and I just can't imagine the situation you describe - and to be stuck next to them is rubbish.

@Milly90 - fingers crossed your lease query works out.

@TulipsfromAmsterdam - why on earth do people offer them go AWOL?

Things still going ok here. Apparently our solicitor has raised enquiries of our vendors as I spoke to the vendors EA this morning. I can speak to him tomorrow but wondered if it would be normal to have sight of what he's asked or do I just assume he's getting on with his job and leave him to it?

tootyfruitypickle · 23/01/2019 09:31

Tulips that's rubbish about buyers disappearing. It does seem that there is some very strange behaviour about. We have offers from people waiting to sell - some of them haven't even gone on the market yet! I can't understand why you would be looking in that situation in the current market. I'm having a down day about it all. I keep trying to visualise that of course one day it will be sold but today I can't imagine it ever will. We are in a London borough where prices are still rising (or were up to November!) so that news buoyed me for a bit but of course it makes no difference to my situation - we're still stuck! Just so fed up. Have decided not to go for a new job, I'm not in the right place mentally and I've been in my current job for yonks so it makes sense to maximise the chance of getting a decent mortgage.

MrsPatmore · 23/01/2019 13:24

Well, we have our offer but much lower than we wanted and almost the same as we paid for it nearly 3 years ago. Really gutted but might have to take it as it's a corporate buyer and they want to be done and dusted by the end of March! Ours is a difficult sell - two up two down with downstairs bathroom. I'm going to put a reduced offer in on the dream property but they already rejected £375K (on a £390K property) and although we can get the extra mortgage, I don't want to stretch in this market/Brexit. They are chain free and moving abroad too so hoping against hope that they can see we are in a good position as buyers.

TokyoSushi · 23/01/2019 16:59

Just wanted to let you know that I'm still here at week 23, garage paperwork still not back, 3rd house purchase (after previous two fell through) nicely underway.

£4.6K for my own garage and since October to get the paperwork to prove ownership.

Fortunately my buyer is still hanging in there!

MovingThisYearDefinitely · 23/01/2019 17:02

A bit of a mixed bag of news I see. Congrats to those with offers. Hopefully the sums can add up with a little negotiation with prospective buyer & vendor.

So sorry to hear things have gone wrong Neighboursbedamned What on earth is their issue? So unfair to you. Flowers

Drama continues here. Last night our boiler went kaput & we had no heating or hot water during what was probably the coldest night of the year so far. Brrr! Finally got it fixed this afternoon thank goodness. In better news, we're into single figures now. 9 days to go till we get the keys & tomorrow is our home demonstration visit! Grin

WitchDancer · 23/01/2019 17:13

Blimey Tokyo, I thought it was going to be resolved Christmas time! Fingers crossed to end is in sight.

Exciting times Moving. I hope the new house is everything you dreamed of.

We get our keys Friday, so this weekend will be spent furniture shopping. That's proving I feel up to it - the lurgy is taking its time going 😷

RangerLady · 23/01/2019 22:33

Oh dear Tokyo, this is such a nightmare for you and these things do seem to take so.long. and eat up money you no doubt had earmarked for something else! Our buyer waited 7 months in the end so if yours love the house don't despair.

We are allowed the keys from tomorrow to clean! Which it bloody well needs! Can't go tomorrow as we have the packers in, honestly not sure how that will go as we then have to live here amongst boxes for 3 days until we complete on Monday. Going Friday pm after dd1 has a settling in visit at her new nursery. All systems go....

mrsdaz · 24/01/2019 07:34

We got our draft contract last night via email from our solicitors. Searches to start now!

Should I be concerned that sellers solicitors has the same surname as seller?! Not a common one either!

Youreadthebabybooks · 24/01/2019 10:04

It doesn’t matter about he solicitor being related does it?
We have always had very good friends act as conveyancing solicitors for us
Never been an issue

WitchDancer · 24/01/2019 11:00

Being related to your solicitor wouldn't bother me, as long as they're efficient. I would raise an eyebrow in court but not where property was involved

Paranormalbouquet · 24/01/2019 12:04

Can I join?

FTB in London. Offered on a lovely Edwardian mansion flat this time last year and were rejected; they accepted a slightly higher offer from someone in a chain. Sat tight for a few months and noticed flat came back on market at a reduced price. We offered significantly less than our original offer and were accepted (2 days after baby 2 was born!).

We’ve had survey done which didn’t throw up anything major, mortgage offer in place so searches are proceeding. Vendors solicitor is very slow despite the fact that they are desperate to move.

Husband has a few weeks off in February/early March so would really love to get keys by end of February.

WitchDancer · 24/01/2019 16:41

Welcome Paranormal, and congratulations on the new baby. I swapped phone numbers with the lovely lady we're buying off - it's been invaluable when comparing notes on what our solicitors were telling us!

MrsPatmore · 24/01/2019 17:18

Offer accepted here but feel a sense of dread about all the things that could go wrong! Think our decision in principle is about to expire too so will need to get skates on re; mortgage application. Is it worth waiting for the mortgage offer before we instruct the surveyor? Thinking we'll do a full structural as they've added a small kitchen extension. Also the house has some sort of covenant which allows access through the terrace ending in our prospective house. Doesn't bother us (and the owners have had no problems) but just wondering if this could complicate/delay the process. We're all looking for a quick move.

MovingThisYearDefinitely · 24/01/2019 21:10

Woo 8 days until we get the keys! Grin Had our demonstration day today & found out how everything works in our new home. Seen that the front planting (that our picky neighbours didn't like) has been changed & its fine, so all is good. Also cleared out our bank accounts pretty much, paying the solicitor the remaining balance for the house so its ready to add to the mortgage & funds from the sale of our old house in time for completion! Exciting times! Grin

sandybayley · 24/01/2019 21:24

@MovingThisYearDefinitely - gosh you really are on countdown now! I've never lived in a brand new house but it must be lovely to move in and not have to deal with other people's mess or bodged DIY jobs. I empathise with the cleared out bank accounts. DH sent me a WhatsApp last week asking for £1k (for the survey) if I don't know better I might think he was up to no good 😉

sandybayley · 24/01/2019 21:28

@MrsPatmore - don't despair! It can work out! It must do. I think there is an element of disappointment in not getting what you want on your house but it soon wears off once things get going.

I spoke to the company doing our survey today (it was done yesterday) and they said the report was typed up on the same day and the valuation sent to our mortgage lender. Just waiting for it to be signed off and sent to us. Plus our buyers mortgage offer is imminent.

Still adding to my en-suite Pinterest board 😁

WitchDancer · 25/01/2019 09:35

Today's the day we get our keys. We had a text last night to say the mortgage had completed (our solicitor said she would do this the day before, which fits in), so it's just waiting for the phone call 🤞

Paranormalbouquet · 25/01/2019 10:03

Witch I haven’t met the sellers, just the annoying agent! The current occupants have so much clutter that I’m terrified I’ll have loads of stuff to clear out when we move in. There’s an enormous Edwardian living room (20 x 16ft) with lovely original features that I’m desperate to get decorating! Congrats on getting the keys!

TulipsfromAmsterdam · 25/01/2019 10:13

From reading posts not many sellers do their own viewings. Up here in north east it is assumed you do and rare for agent to do them especially if house is lived in. Does anyone else do viewing in person?

WitchDancer · 25/01/2019 10:17

We didn't do our viewings, no, but mainly because they were daytime while we were at work.

WitchDancer · 25/01/2019 11:34

Ooooo she’s just phoned - it’s all gone through and we can pick the keys up from 12.00 onwards 😁

LookingOptimistic · 25/01/2019 12:09

@WitchDancer Congrats _ hope you enjoy the first night in your new home.
