Hello need some very last minute advice here!

Moving to my mum's this weekend as we are having work done on our house from Monday for 2 to 3 months. Work includes full rewire, new kitchen, bathroom and French doors plus replastering of most of the walls. We will then paint and put in new carpet/flooring once majority of that is done.

My question is can anybody recommend any particular kind of dust sheets/plastic wrap to protect 2 empty wardrobes, display cabinet, chest of drawers, bed and large sofa? Everything else will be moved out apart from a few bits in the loft (I suppose I should be asking the builders this but will dust get in the loft too?!)

Thanks in advance if anyone has any input!

I got some giant resuable plastic sofa bags from amazon. They cover the whole sofa and I taped to underside and tucked under the feet.

They fit perfectly over cot, a sideboard etc (I’ve written in sharpie which is for which as got a variety of sizes)

Each time we get to a mucky phase I cover it all up but it’s quick to whip off again

I also recommend the enormous bags from Amazon. We wrapped two sofas and a piano when the builder demolished the back wall of the house. Use duck tape to take them up tightly.

Wickes have good polythene dust sheets for £2.50 They're not strong... but they're 12ft square. I bought a few last week to protect doors. Great when used with duct tape.

you can get decorators polythene sheet on a roll. It's thin, and cheap. Use tape to encapsulate your stuff because find dust will get in through any gaps.

Plastic storage crates are better for belongings that will fit, and you can stack them.

Hoover or wipe the packaging clean before opening, or dust will fly off onto your stuff.

Clothes can go in recycling bags, which are clear plastic, bigger than a bin bag, and thinner. You can see what's in them.

Never put anything you want to keep in a black bin bag, it will be accidentally thrown away or somebody will shovel ruble into it on top of your stuff.

Builders dust will damage and clog domestic vacs. Get a builder's canister vac, and some spare cartridge filters and bags to fit. Never buy one where you can't buy spare bags and filters to fit. This one is cheap and IMO good value. They are quite noisy. With cheap tools look for a long guarantee so you will get the job done before needing to pay for a new one. They may or may not end up lasting for years more. Aldi and Lidl also sell cheap tools.

"Wet and dry" means it will suck up water from a burst pipe or a blocked drain. The cartridge filters are waterproof but the bag is not and has to be removed.

Take your domestic vac apart and hide the parts in the boot of your car to prevent the builders finding it.
