Infrared heaters/ heating for grade 2 listed building

We have just bought a grade 2 listed building. It’s a small fisherman’s cottage - one up one down literally. It doesnt have heating except an open fire and we have been looking at cost effective/ space saving ways to install heating. We are looking at infrared heaters and wondered if anyone has any advice about it or any other suggestions. There’s not a lot of wall space. Thank you.

If its that small I would change the open fire for a multi fuel stove, which will throw out a lot of heat. Of course I am assuming you have the space to store coal and logs. Slimline night storage heaters might suit. Is it a holiday cottage? You could probably get by with a few electric oil filled radiators that you can move around. I lived in a solid fuel heated house for years, my 'luxury' was an electric radiator in the bathroom on a time switch. The house was never cold but I was forever lugging coal and wood about - still am actually.

It depends how much you value your comfort! I would install electric radiators. Like a towel rail but more in keeping with the cottage. You can possibly get low level ones that run just above the floor. Definitely a towel rad in the bathroom! Get the correct size for the room. Cheap and cheerful is rarely warm and cosy! Also a multi fuel fire is better than an open fire.
