I've just been quoted £2k for a full pack, dismantle and reassemble beds and move. Large 4 bed house. Moving only about a mile away, but will be a 2 day job. I am a bit This firm come highly recommended and I will grudgingly pay a premium for that I think but is this completely insane? SE England but outside m25.

We paid that in the NW

We are paying £400 for a professional fully insured removal company in an expensive area 1 hour from London. We have a 3 bed family home with loft and shed but definitely not large. We are packing ourselves but they do offer the service extra.

I found them through a contact at the council. They move people out of council homes eg people downsizing, so are very reasonably priced. That’s a good way to identity the cheaper providers. Look for a family owned local company.

We’ve used them before and they were excellent. In fact a much better service than the large companies because the people who own the company work on the jobs. They rely on word of mouth so service is very good.

I guess they have few overheads, are always busy and get the block contracts from the council/ HAs so that why they can keep their prices low.

£2k in the SE for full packing plus removal is not expensive at all for a 4 bed house. In fact it sounds quite good!

ChiaraRimini · 31/10/2018 19:52

Purpleflower would you mind naming the company in case they are in my area? Thanks!

We are a 3 bed house (but with 3 reception rooms so it's actually quite big) and we have a load of stuff including s shed full and a canoe! Full pack and removal about 1hr away quotes from 1.5k to 2.1k. I was horrified as so many people told me.it cost them £900 two years ago...

RangerLady · 31/10/2018 20:10

We're in N Essex btw

hendricksy · 31/10/2018 20:15

I've moved 3 times in the south east and it's cost me around £8-900 just to move . I packed everything up . So I'd say that's pretty good . Let's face it the packing is the worst bit isn't it .

ChiaraRimini · 31/10/2018 20:29

The packing is only about £400 and yes, it's worth it. As a single working parent of 3 kids there's just no way I can do it myself. That's also why I'd rather go with the highly recommended firm rather then chance saving a couple of hundred quid with another firm with dodgy reviews. We moved here 12 years ago and I think it cost well below a grand, but we did it all in one day then.

I've just had a quote to pack a 3 bed house and move an hour away for £1500 that includes dismantling beds and trampoline and putting up again. I'm in kent

Easilyflattered · 31/10/2018 20:41

We recently paid that for a 4 bed house, full packing, beds taken apart and reassembled, moving 20 miles down the road in Cambs.

PurpleFlowersInMyHair · 31/10/2018 20:46

Hi OP - this is the company I recommended

www.jamremovals.co.uk

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 01/11/2018 07:29

My quote today was £2,750 for a 4 bed 10 miles away, but with most of my furniture (including most of the beds) staying put as I have sold it with the house. So all I am moving is books, glass, soft furnishings, clothes etc and a few pieces of furniture.

Into and out of storage was £3,760.

I think my figures are ridiculous and your quote is quite good in comparison.

friendlycat · 01/11/2018 23:41

Sounds pricey. I paid £2,700 inclusive of packing and insurance and delayed completion entry up until 5pm with a national company for a move 50miles away with trans shipment into smaller van due to narrow lane. 3 bed house with 2 reception rooms and loads of mirrors pictures etc. I thought that was expensive but all things considered they were great and across 2 days with distance.

HeddaGarbled · 01/11/2018 23:54

We’ve had 2 quotes of around £2000 for a 2 day move (because of the distance) for a 4 bedroom house, without the packing and unpacking and bed dismantling and reassembling. Both of these from medium sized firms. We’ve also had a quote of around £1000 from a small family firm. The temptation is to go with the cheaper quote but he said he could get it all in a 7 and a half ton van, whereas the other two were definite that they couldn’t. I’m not going to take the risk.

3in4years · 02/11/2018 14:16

I just got a quote for £1.1k to pack and move 3 bed with shed and loft and garden furniture, 5 miles away. Fairly pleased with that.

Unacervezaporfavor · 02/11/2018 14:38

Sounds reasonable. My big sis moved from 3 bed small house about 5 miles in Oxford area earlier this year and paid £2k incl packing.

We paid a little over £1k to a horrific company that damaged or destroyed beyond repair every single item of furniture we owned (it was recommended Confused) including basic packing but only from a 1 bed flat nearly 5 years ago. Angry (London area though)
