Room thermostat

Hi everyone we have recently extended our home pretty much doubled the size of it. My question is where do I put the room thermostat now?. If I leave it in the main living room it turns the heating off before the other rooms get hot enough . In the other living room it's north facing so a lot cooler and if I put the stat in there the rest of the house will be hot . Also in the main living room where the stat is now there is no trv and in the cooler living room there is a trv set to 5 . Hope that makes sense .

Could you get hive?

The thermostat is freestanding so you could try it in different rooms & at different settings until you found what was best.

You need to but the room thermostat in the coldest part of your house and use trv's to reduce the temperature in the other rooms. Are all your internal doors closed? You may find opening some will heat other rooms. Hope that helps

I've got the tado thermostat which can be moved around the house . Only the extension has trvs though they are all new radiators the existing house For not have them.

It might be worth having them fitted on your other radiators then. In the meantime work out your warmest rooms and leave those doors open to heat the open plan area

You shouldn't have a room thermostat and a trv in the same space.

Most room thermostats are in a hallway.

Did you consider having the house zoned if the extension has made it quite large?

Daftasabroom · 03/11/2018 23:06

Ditto zones

johnd2 · 04/11/2018 11:36

Yes actually for large houses the building regs require zoning because it doesn't make sense to have one for the whole house.

pickledolive · 04/11/2018 12:26

Ok that's interesting for the zoning I did know about it but apparently we are just under the sq metre that is required for building regs but may still look into it . For now I have increased the temp in the room the stat is in now and it seems to be helping so far

put your thermostat in the main living room, and balance your radiators so that the radiator in the room with the stat warms up slightly slower than all the others and outputs less heat.

All radiators are provided with a valve to do this but not everyone knows how.
