sofa beds for proper sleeping!

I am trying to find a 2 seater sofa bed comfy enough for my 20 year old son to sleep on when he is back from Uni- including the 12 weeks in the summer! There is also a possibility he might have to use it if he returns to the nest when degree is finished. So not something for occasional use! I have been trawling the internet for hours! Can anyone recommend anything?

I searched for something suitable to go in my office at home and have ended up going for a wall bed (sometimes called Murphy bed) so it is out of the way but it is a proper bed if needed for visitors - might be an option?

The Innovation range. They’re sold at John Lewis, not cheap but fully sprung so can be slept on like a bed.
We’ve just had our first guests sleep on ours and we didn’t tell them it wasn’t a conventional double bed, until they were going. They had a superb few nights sleep and didn’t believe us when we said it was a sofa bed.

We've had a lot of success with our IKEA one. Visitors always say it's comfy.

Murphy beds are your best bet if you’ve got the room and the cash. They can look just like a nice built in cabinet.

StillRunningWithScissors · 25/10/2018 19:21

@ElspethFlashman which IKEA sofa bed do you have?

namechangedtoday15 · 25/10/2018 19:48

We have the Abbey sofa bed from M&S with a sprung mattress, looks good as a sofa and quite comfortable (although we use a mattress topper too).

PickAChew · 25/10/2018 19:52

The reviews of those sofa beds from M&S say the mattress is really thin.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/10/2018 20:00

We got the IKEA Lyckseke 2 seater a few years ago for DS .
Cannot remember which one but we went for the highest priced option to get the best mattress.

It is as ugly as sin Grin but very comfy. If you want to turn it into a sofa you fold it up and wrestle to cover on .

We recently upgraded it with a mattress topper but it's still going strong .

We've had ours a few years - might be different construction now bit ours isn't thin. Maybe now such a good recommendation though now- Sorry!

stillrunning honestly I haven't a clue. It's square, low, grey and 1960s looking. Not the prettiest thing. It lies the person longways so just as if they were lying on the sofa but with twice as much space.

Most sofa beds pull out too far, which can be crap in smaller rooms.

ElspethFlashman · 25/10/2018 21:36

(I just looked it up, it's the Friheten I think)

StillRunningWithScissors · 25/10/2018 22:02

Elspeth thanks, I'll have a look at it

Wow mumsnetters. Thanks for your quick responses and suggestions. I will research. Still open to other thoughts though! Thanks all x

I know this is not helpful - but are sofa beds ever that comfortable to sleep on?

HidingFromDD · 26/10/2018 22:20

second the lyksele, but if he comes back permanently then you'd need to get a proper mattress.

SushiMonster · 27/10/2018 14:07

You can put an additional memory foam mattresss topper on top of the sofa bed mattress for additional comfort. That’s what I do and keep the mattress topper Z folded underneath the sofa.
