Conservatory help - Thermashade blinds/curtains

Does anyone have any experience of thermashade curtains or blinds from Hilary's or a similar product? I'm trying to think of ways of keeping the conservatory not freezing in the winter. We've recently moved in and would like to be able to use it.
Ultimately we will knock it down and extend but that is years away.

In my experience of my conservatory it has only been made habitable by an insulated roof (or quality glass roof). Blinds and curtains will make minimal difference and only pumping heat into the room will stop the fridge effect, the blinds/curtains may stop this heat escaping as quickly but it will stilll escape. Depending on the cost I would rather put the money away for the replacement.

Which direction does it face?

BLUEBOLT, I thought as much. How did you insulate the roof?

Ok so it could be really hot in summer (especially in mornings)

To make it feel warmer in winter you could get some thick pile rugs so floor is warmer

We have Hilarys perforated Venetian blinds in kitchen but use them to keep heat out in high summer don't know about thermal ones - are they very expensive?

How many years before it is knocked down?

Replace the roof with a tiled roof or thermo active glass

Bluebolt · 26/10/2018 16:45

I have a lightweight tiled roof, but that is only because we already have an extension and the conservatory was well built and in good condition. It cost five grand and it is now useable all year but only worth while if planning to keep the conservatory.

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 26/10/2018 17:09

We didn't use it much in the summer as we were outside most mealtimes. I'd like it more useable in the winter. I'll investigate that thermal glass and a lightly tiled roof.
It's likely to be about 5 years until we can replace with a proper extension so we don't want to spend thousands.

I'll also get hilllarys in to quite for thermal blinds.

Some of the posh conservatory blinds cost thousands so you might be better changing other bits of the conservatory. We’ve just had our roof changed to lightweight tiles and it is much warmer

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 27/10/2018 07:07

Did you use Cosyroof for the lightweight tiles?

Our roof was equinox, we had quotes from cosyroof and guardian. There was little difference in performance ratings but the difference in pricing from local independent fitters and national companies was huge, so decision was made on our chosen fitters recommendation. The conservatory has never been more than 2 degrees less in temperature than its adjoining room, whereas before it was our Christmas alcohol fridge.

Ours is Ultraframe
