Any electricians out there?

Hoping someone might be able to help tell me if what I have planned will be greeted with a groan or not when I show the electrician.
I'm thinking of a 3 multi outlet ceiling rose with different coloured fabric flex. My Dds room will be quite dark so I think 3 lights dotted about would work well.
As far as I'm presuming it'll need each cord fitting to the rose and then the rose fitting to the ceiling. Is there much work involved in this? Obvs it's more involved than a simple single pendant but I'm hoping he won't look too horrified.
I would just like to know if I need to greet him with an extra large cup of tea and an extra jammy dodger or 2 GrinGrin

Which country are you buying it from?

bobkate · 24/10/2018 13:41

The UK.

it looks very odd. one of the pics looks like it shows a downlighter. I wonder if it is a fitting used in China.

Extra-low lamps with a transformer often have several connected to one source, but I haven't seen anything like you show. have you got a link to the product(s)?

On the rose, the things that look like connection terminals are (probably) cord grips. It wouldn't make sense to have exposed terminals on a metal cover. I don't know what size of cord they fit, or what size is the cord on the lampholder you show.

It's quite a novel idea, you will find it interesting to see if they fit together.

I'd probably have gone for an ordinary white plastic rose and pendants. You can get flex with an ornamental "silk" braid cover, it's used in the repro trade for people who want antique table lamps. If you don't have a rose over each pendant, you will need some kind or cord grip fixed to the ceiling, or perhaps a hook.

But we only have one lighting point in each ceiling so I can't do multiple that way. I will see what happens when the products arrive and go from there. Thanks pigletjohn

if it's a bedroom, then the upper surface of the ceiling, and the lighting wiring, may be accessible in the loft.

bobkate · 24/10/2018 16:19

Not anymore as we've had the loft converted and I didn't think about my fancy pants lighting until too late GrinGrinGrin
Had I done this before many of these little scenarios would have been better thought out!!

So I called the bloke from vendimia as you are right, those are cord grips, not connectors. He said the fitting should be no issue for the electrician. All we need extra are some connections which are minimal cost from screwfix, or he said it's the sort of thing he'd possibly have in his tool kit anyway. Hopefully my vision will come to fruition easily enough 🤞

Success pigletjohn Grin the room still resembles a storage unit and so they are just looped together for now but you get the jist. I'm thrilled!
