"Complimentary" dishwasher in rental property

The dishwasher in our home was listed as complimentary on the inventory, along with a fridge/freezer. Both are integrated appliances and coming up to 9 yrs old. Unfortunately the dishwasher no longer works, from what I can gather because it was listed as being complimentary the landlord isn't liable to fix or replace?

We have a decent dishwasher in the garage kept from our last house, it is freestanding which would mean a kickboard would need to be cut to allow room for it. I doubt the landlord would allow this but I don't want to buy an integrated dishwasher that will be useless if we move out.

Googling has given conflicting advice, some say if it is listed as complimentary then the landlord isn't responsible others say if it's in the property then they are responsible regardless or what the inventory says.

If I (as a landlord) had left a dishwasher as a goodwill gesture, after 9 years I'd think you were lucky it had lasted that long and would be a bit annoyed at the expectation to replace it.

Can you replace cheaply secondhand?

You could just pull the kickboard out, and put it back when you move. You can buy another one and cut it to length until then, if you want.

Look at "kitchen plinth" on ebay or DIY suppliers.

Or you could start by reporting to the owner that the dwr is now faulty and do they want to repair, replace or dispose of it. They are quite heavy to take to the tip. The owner is doing you no favours by cluttering up your home with scrap appliances.

Thanks for the replies. Our dishwasher we have stored in the garage is a miele so pretty decent and a lot newer than 9yrs old. Good call about buying a new kickboard to cut to size hadn't thought of thatBlush
I'll contact the letting agent to check they're happy for us to dispose of the old dishwasher, don't want to have it deducted from our deposit have to be so careful.

I would check if they are prepared to replace it as its integrated. I think they are being pretty cheeky to be honest with it being integrated - free standing fair enough but its part of the fittings FFS
