I need advice, me my partner and son have found the first house that we have fallen in love with. We knew straight away it was us and it feels so homely. We are new to this whole buying a property but what I'm asking is would you be completely put off with JUST a bathroom downstairs? We will eventually be toileting our son so this is why I ask, if anyone has any experiences please tell me. We are unsure what do only because of that but we love everything else🤷🏻‍♀️

I had a downstairs bathroom, not ideal but you quickly get used to it.

I'd go for it if you love the house.

It would be a straight no from me, but each to their own. I think it will also be harder to sell, which is important to consider

My first house only had a downstairs bathroom (old terraced house with kitchen/ bathroom extension added in the early 1970's) it was really very inconvenient tbh, especially when I was pregnant and when my eldest was a toddler during the night. Obviously it had its benefits during the day though.

We have an old terraced 1850 house with downstairs bathroom. It bothered me at first and now I don’t even think about it being an issue. Sure, when hungover, ill or pregnant it’s a mild inconvenience to need to go downstairs; but goodness, it’s not like I’m traipsing to the West Wing for a wee! As for toilet training, i’ve found it to be a godsend that the bathroom is downstairs with my two - we had potty’s in the bedrooms for night time wees but they were both dry at night pretty quickly anyway.

If you love the house, go for it. Don’t let a minor thing put you off.

Oh - and in terms of resale; we bought it within a week of it going on the market and we are in the process of selling it now - first viewing, first offer. So don’t worry about resale at all.

Thank you all for the comments, I think it's made my mind up. We are going to look at it again this week and hopefully get our first home🤞🏼😊 @TheFantasticFixit I'm glad you can tell me your experience, we have a one and a half year old so that's what I worry about him going toilet. What age did they have potty's in there room for at night?

Both of them were 3 and 3.3 before potty training so I really wouldn’t worry about it just yet - you’ll be more familiar with the layout of your house and will naturally adapt anyway. As soon as they started training we out potty’s in their rooms and lifted them at around 11pm for a quick try.

Here’s a tip though- the later you leave it, the easier it will be. Both of mine were physically and mentally ready, they decided when to start and as a consequence both were dry (day AND night) within a week. Good luck!

We had one when we moved in. Considered converting the 3rd bedroom upstairs but so glad we didn't. We extended recently and have added an upstairs shower room. So now we have 2 and the bath is downstairs. Perfect for bathing my toddler as I can be tidying up while she splashes away. You get used to the GF bathroom, it's a pain but not a deal breaker.
