New bathroom... where to start?!

So, we are extending our home into the attic to give us a master bedroom with ensuite (I still can't quite believe it!) I have chosen tiles, but have NO IDEA where to start with loo/ double basin/ shower (double basin may not fit but I'd LOVE one). Any good websites that will give me the lot? Are places like Bathstore and Victoria Plum any good?

And also what radiator would go with this style of taps, which I am indecently in love with www.drench.co.uk/crosswater-mpro-wall-mounted-basin-mixer-tap-brushed-brass

I was advised to avoid the 2 you name as quality is poor

I used Victorian plumbing and the quality seems fine but we did have quite a lot of damaged stuff that had to be replaced

Consider looking at local plumbing suppliers, if they you have any problems they’re handy for replacing parts

Thanks, I namechecked those two for the reasons you describe but didn't want to slag them off with no real experience of them! Do you know Drench? I like their stuff a lot.

As a person who has previously both fitted bathrooms and designed them I would advise against both of the companies that you named! Also steer clear of flat packed B&Q or Homebase stuff! All those options are cheap and great if you plan to sell up within a couple of years but not if you're staying put...

Do you have a City Plumbing Supplies or Travis Perkins near you? Go to one of those, they're knowledgeable, have a large range of items and can draw it up on computer for you.

Oh by the way, the Crosswater stuff you mentioned is great quality with a good guarantee - and I'm pretty sure they have a sale on at the minute! They have it once a year and it's always massive discounts. Hope I've helped!

Bathstore etc are great for looking round their showrooms to get some ideas but expensive and unreliable to buy from. Your plumber is bound to have trade discounts so have a word with them once you have an idea what you want . Plumbworld are a good company.
Avoid square or fancy toilets a nightmare to get spare parts. Get good taps

Givemecoffeeplease · 22/10/2018 14:54

This is all invaluable, thank you!! What radiator would you use with the brushed taps - I've always gone for a chrome towel rail but feel that it wouldn't work with these.
You lot are ace. :)

We had these heated radiators & got the colour of our choice. As it's a RAL colour, all you need is a RAL swatch & you can see if it matches your taps

Absolutely don't skimp on taps, traps or shower. I'd also avoid going for anything buried, if anything goes wrong or needs replacing it's an expensive tricky fix.

roley · 22/10/2018 15:15

I'd have a chat with the trade man who will be doing the work for you.. as pp said they may get trade discount. Also, my husband is a plumber and has just begun a job where the customer bought everything themselves online and some things are just not compatible with his bathroom size and layout so a professional will definitely be able to advise you better before you splash out. Exciting though!!!

I asked my plumber what he would do with the space (it was grim and tiny) and he suggested a design that has been brilliant. We had to move the bath and toilet around so extra cost there, but it's been so worthwhile. He suggested ideal standard sanitary ware and it's all been brilliant. 18 years on it could do with a refurb but it's not dated very much and it's all fine other than the bath panel looks a bit tired and the shower pump is not as forceful as it was. If you have plumbers on mind to do the job, ask their advice. I

Thanks, now I just need to get the builder to turn up ;)

As @Kamma89 says, don't scrimp under any circumstances on taps, shower etc. If you buy from a reputable company it's easy to get parts, but buy from these cheap internet companies and you have to buy again - they bulk buy these items and can't get parts as they don't know what they've bought.

KhaleesiTheDeadWalker · 22/10/2018 15:20

Oh and The Radiator Company is great for towel rails in many different colours and finishes

Ineedalifeline · 23/10/2018 21:59

Same situation here, any suggestions for good quality taps?
Looked in bathstore, mainly for design ideas, but will check Travis Perkins and City Plumbing for purchasing the items. In addition, has anyone tried a whirlpool bath, are they comfortable and do they actually work properly?
