Fireplace tiles

Do they have to be special ones? Can it be any tile?
It’s for the inside of the chimney breast and the floor that the wood burning stove will sit on

Ring up a couple of fireplace (hetas approved) centres and ask them - doesn't matter where they're based. Just be 'concerned' that your fireplace guy doesn't know and what should you do. BTW why doesn't your fireplace guy know if he fits stoves?

SpoonBlender · 19/10/2018 11:43

Srsly. Fireplace guy should have a pile of brochures for you on this. Concern.

Tomboytown · 19/10/2018 13:52

I’m sure he knows,
I just can’t get hold of him

I said I’d get the tiles cos I had a specific look in mind, nothing like he usually does

Assuming you're in Britain OP, www.toppstiles.co.uk have 672 tiles that they state are suitable for use around fireplace.

Tomboytown · 19/10/2018 13:56

He said anything porcelain, but I’m finding tiles that say they can be used in fireplaces but they’re ceramic

OP posts:
Wingedharpy · 19/10/2018 13:58

They also have an on-line chat service which is always helpful IMHO.

Wingedharpy · 19/10/2018 14:02

Porcelain is apparently denser and more durable than ceramic.
So, a porcelain tile, suitable for heavy traffic use, should be ok.

I have these tiles in the utility, I could use them, but I wanted a smaller darker blue pattern, like this

Try googling 'moroccan tiles for fireplace' there's lots of results.

Tomboytown · 19/10/2018 18:45

Yeah I was looking for a cheaper option.
Those fired earth ones are about £1500-2000

And I now don’t have time to order a sample, and find stockists.
I need ‘in stock’ and fast delivery

I just put the phrase in Google, I don't know what tile suppliers you have near you, here's another:

There's building regs related to this so definitely get expert advice or it could cost you later. I know it has to be solid base as we were told we may have to pour some concrete down first (we have suspended timber floor). Not doing it until next year though so have not looked into it any further yet.

MrBull · 19/10/2018 22:26

P.S. We were told a tiled heart isn't great for a solid fuel fire (granite/slate seems to be more common). I know log burners are different.

MrBull · 19/10/2018 22:27

*hearth

Tomboytown · 19/10/2018 23:40

The concrete is already down, yes, it should come out a certain distance.
It’s a log burner and only a ‘less than 5kw’ so low power
