We're planning on installing gas central heating in our new home. We'll need a new gas connection and a full system put in, we currently only have two storage heaters downstairs and no heating upstairs. We're in Scotland and have been in touch with Home Energy Scotland to see if there's any incentives available to help us, but the application form states we need cavity wall and loft insulation in place and we don't. Has anyone gone through them for financial help for new heating systems? Are we better off just taking a personal loan out to get the work done? It all seems very confusing!

if you have no loft or wall insulation, the heat you tip into your house will just gush out. Like tipping water into a leaky bucket.

Spend your money on insulation first.

Can you get a loan or grant for it?

From time to time the large energy companies offer free or subsidised insulation schemes as an obligation forced on them by the government.

Sorry I wasn't clear on my earlier post - my heads all confused! We have loft insulation but we have solid walls so can't get cavity wall insulation so not sure where we stand from there. I'm going to call Home Energy Scotland again tomorrow and see if they can help too.
