bathroom reno - full tiling

We're looking to redo our main/family bathroom shortly.

Completely gutting the room (not moving position of the sanitary ware).

Obviously removing the old tiles will result in the plaster being damaged. I'm considering tiling all of the walls (not a big room at all), hopefully avoiding the need to replaster.

Is there any reason why this might not be a good idea. Other than cost of tiles it seems a good option to me, but want to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious.

Thank you

Wall surface post tile removal will probably be poor & tiling straight over will give rubbish finish. A skim won't cost much & worth doing properly.

Have you tried removing any of the tiles, if so how clean did they come off? How old is the house and when was it last tiled? Really depends type of walls, method of attaching original tiles and the adhesive used (tubbed/ready mixed adhesive is easier to remove than cement based)

Bear in mind the render under the skim coat plaster in older houses can have broken down to the extent that it crumbles and falls off the walls when doing something as drastic as removing tiles (don't be tempted to go at them with a SDS Chisel), you won't know until you take some off but if it's only a case of patches of skim that's been damaged then the level can be built back up with adhesive as the tiling is done just be sure all the adhesive is removed so you don't get high spots, there's no need to go to the trouble and expense of reskimming as long as whoever's doing the tiling knows how to keep them level. if your walls are plasterboard and cement based adhesive was used then I think you'll be looking at reboarding.
