Is there a curtain pole for bay windows which actually works?

Trying to buy a pole for the bay in our new house and am hoping to avoid the c shaped rings ones I have had previously had which drive me nuts. We will have quite heavy curtains but I am hoping I can get away with 3 brackets so I can avoid the rings jamming. Anyone managed to find something which works?

I had mine already in the house when I moved in. They’re wrought iron and 3 brackets . 2 either end which keep the loop of the end curtains and 1 in the middle. Works great.

I’d guess they had it made to measure so no idea on cost a pretty much the same as this.

I got this one from B&Q. Sometimes the curtain rings drag on the bendy bit. (The guy who fitted mine had to cut the pole to the right size and bend it in the right places.)

You need a Silent Gliss Metropole.

The made to measure metal ones will last many years but I think they are about £400 (my mum has a curtain business in Essex and I remember her mentioning the price).

Thanks everyone.
Lizzydarcybennet I don't like those type of pole/tracks and they are really expensive to get made to measure (I was quoted £600 for a similar but different window)

Squirreltamer thanks. I will have a look at those.

Hollowtalk do those only have 3 brackets?

Yes, I think there's a central bracket where both ends fit on, then a bracket at the end of each pole. It works well, though it looks like it won't! I remember hearing the guy swearing a bit when he was doing it.

My windows are original Edwardian and that probably made it more difficult.

My parents got one from (and fitted by) John Lewis. It has the C rings, but it is hardly noticeable.

It has lasted about 20 years. Every one they tried before that failed. I well remember the curtains coming down on my head before. Along with the plaster Sad

We got ours from JL, the bay has 4 bends in it, with floor length, heavy, linen curtains! 90% of the time it works fine, the rest Ughhh!
We resorted to wide slat Venetian blinds and accept that the pole and curtains provide ‘the look’ for the Edwardian house.
Not the cheapest of options.

We used the same company as Squirrel tamer. It cost us around £200 5 or 6 years ago. We are really happy with it.

We have c ring ones from the Bradley collection. Not cheap but work great and really sturdy

PenguindreamsofDraco · 16/10/2018 09:00

We went with Jim Lawrence. It was a bit of a faff because you have to make your own template with newspaper, but the pole itself is great. As a pro tip, rub the pole lightly with a silicone lube type affair about once a month to stop the rings sticking, it's made a massive difference.

NewLampsForOld · 16/10/2018 09:06

Yes, the Silentgliss ones, Metropole mentioned above. From John Lewis.

They are pricey, we paid £600 for ours. There are plenty of style options to choose from.

7to25 · 17/10/2018 15:02

They are called "bypass rings" if you ever need to describe them.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 17/10/2018 15:10

I have four bay windows to do curtains for. I'm thinking of making my own from copper pipe, but it will result in an awkward curtain layout! Hopefully the money I save will make up for it.

Cameron Fuller do a System 30 track OP. I just ordered one at work and thought of this thread, even though it's a bit late.
