Lodgers and the Rent a Room Scheme Quandry

Hi I have a lodger and was hoping to have the income tax free under the rent a room scheme but it's got a bit complicated. Can you help?
I am a single parent btw and a full time student.
The lodger has a house elsewhere and is only staying 2,3/4 nights a week. They are paying Council tax on their flat elsewhere. Do I still qualify for the rent-a-room scheme for this additional income to be tax free?
I have applied for a Council Tax exemption as I am a FT student and my lodger pays CT on their other house. They are renting the room for the whole week however and it is theirs should they choose to use it.
Just hoping I am right on both counts (The CT and the R-a-R tax exemption on the income). Can anyone help?

I think you are still entitled to the rent-a-room exemption. I can't see any reason based on those facts why you wouldn't be.

The entitlement to the single occupant council tax rebate is further outside my area of expertise - but I think is less likely.

This may well have been covered on the Landlordzone website. It's a good place to ask if not.
