I like it how it is.

I don't think anything you did would really help that as it's so much of its time! I'd probably embrace it as is and get a pineapple shaped ice bucket to display on it.

Perhaps cover the two external horizontal surfaces with wallpaper. Paint the inside of the cupboard or paper that? If you could get the same paper in coordinating light and dark colourways you could paper inside the cupboard with one and the surfaces in the other. You can't really do much with the central column or backboard because they are ribbed.

I'd do something with the top half to juxtapose the gorgeous bottom bit. Just don't paint it grey

i think wowfudge has it tbh, it's such a icon that to do anything to it would be pointless

AND I now really want a pineapple ice bucket.

Pineapple fairy lights were everywhere though in the summer so maybe you could get your hands on some and dangle them artistically!

It's lovely furniture and I wouldn't touch it. I have never seen anything upcycled that looks as good as the original version (when the original is in such good condition!!

That said the wall paper idea could be nice, you could do the same to the dresser and put glass over the top to stop it being permanently there if you don't like it, but I personally wouldn't.

The cabinet just needs a set of babycham glasses & an ice bucket and it will be perfect!

You can bring things up to date just by putting them in a modern setting with a few modern things around them and on them. Have a look at Masons Du Monde for inspiration, they seem to mix old and new very well.

thanks for the replies what period do you think the pieces are from? i got them from my local charity place £70 for the lot but know nothing about them

1moreRep i think the wardrobe & dressing table is probably thirties, I wouldn’t upcycle though, the wood is very pretty looks like it could be walnut.
The drinks cabinet, possibly wallpaper the melamine bits, again I would leave the wood parts, as they are.
