Loft en-suite drainage probkem

We had our loft converted end of last year, and also had an en-suite put in.
The drainage in the shower is extremely slow, and the tray fills up with water (about 2 cm) whenever I shower.
It’s been getting steadily worse and I’m worried there’s a blockage (and if so what can I do) or that the water will get to a level that might go over the height of the tray.
It probably takes about 5-10 mins to drain fully.
The builder is a family friend so it’s a bit awkward to ask him as he’s quite dismissive when I have questioned things in the past.

I just wanted to know if this is normal due to the height of where the shower is, and it just takes longer to drain, and if not is there anything I can do to help?

I have attached a photo - the dark water is hair dye as I dyed my hair this morning! Hmm

Has it always been slow to drain? Where does the waste water go to from the loft ensuite? I.e. is it close to the soil pipe/drain or is it travelling some distance?

I doubt very much the height of the shower causes it to take longer to drain, surely it has gravity on its side?

Has it always been that slow, or just recently?

When our bath started not draining like this we took the trap apart and it was blocked about 4 inches deep with DD's matted hair. I know it was her hair by the colour. Gross.

Periodically I now pour drain blocker down the plug to dissolve any hair and built up soap scum.

get a coat hanger wire down the plughole, I bet it is full of hair. ...it's revolting when you winkle them out of the drain so brace yourself! :v

I think I read on here people call them drain squirrels!

The en-suite is above the bathroom so close to the pipes etc.

It's always been a bit slower, but seems even more so recently. I think it was more obvious today with the dye in the water and that I wanted to sit and shave my legs and couldn't in THAT!

I do take the plug thing out every now and then and pull my hair out Blush but the blockage seems deeper down than that? Maybe it is hair that's got caught up!

I'll get some drain blocker and see if that helps!

Get some of this down and leave overnight before flushing through with plenty of hot water.

I use drain blocker weekly. Dd and I have long thick hair so it doesn't take long for hair to build up in the drains.

I use one of these to prevent hair going down the drain.
