Do you have a 60s/70s house with an integral garage?

I just have a quick question about integral garages of 60s/70s houses. I have read that many were built with an asbestos ceiling to provide fire proofing but would this be the case for all houses of this age? Are there chances of other materials being used too?

PS. I know samples can be taken for testing of asbestos content I'm more just curious of other materials that may have been used at this time

I don't live in one, but we were very close to buying a 60s house with integral garage. The ceiling was definitely asbestos. (We didn't not buy it because of the asbestos btw!)

How could you tell is was definitely asbestos @user1484830599 - didn't it just look like normal plasterboard?

My husband noticed it (he's really good like that fortunately). It didn't look like normal plasterboard, it had been painted and the giveaway was the mahoosive tin of asbestos paint on the floor in the garage.

Ah yes, big clue @user1484830599!

We had a 1963 house with asbestos in the garage. The builders removed it without breaking it, sealed it in bags and took it to council asbestos tip. It wasn’t a huge job.

We have a 70s house with integrated garage. The ceiling isn't asbestos, but an airflow pipe in the garage is, as is the floor in the boiler room in the attic.

@TorchesTorches what is your ceiling made of in your garage?

Not sure exactly but it looks a lot like breezeblocks/ concrete
