Rainfall shower head-please help!!

We've just moved into a new house and it has a big walk in shower with just a fixed rainfall head. I hate it!! I don't know why you would put one of those in there without the secondary shower head to wash feet, etc. I dont want to dunk my head underwater every day. I'm standing there with my head poking out at an awkward angle, trying not to get my hair wet. And it's a pain in the backside to clean the shower without a handheld. It's making me angry as I type this Angry

Does anybody know if it is possible to add a secondary handheld shower head without taking up tiles? The bathroom is beautiful but I just am not enjoying my showers anymore. I could cry!

So you have a rainfall type with a swivel joint? I've just been Googling images of them.... I think they would definitely be preferable. Do you have a link to the type you have?

Yes, she was talking about the electronic type. I was assuming we're not able to convert it to a normal manual one. I think I'll still get a plumber to have a look and see what they say about that. Gosh, this is complicated!

As a temporary fix for your "other" area cleaning, can you get a plastic jug to take in the shower with you?

When we had our shower refitted I got a rainfall head because it looks pretty and modern, but knew I'd want the separate handheld bit too. So glad I did, as I used the rainfall head once and thought "nah - I don't need to feel like I'm being waterboarded every time I have a shower" and have never used it since. It does still look pretty though!

Re spare tiles, do you have a bath you can check under? My old house had all the spare tiles under the bath. Current house they were all in the loft. Or take a photo in to a tile showroom and see if they can help you find the type - you never know - they may still be in existence.

Our house was very much "style over substance" when we moved in so I feel your pain OP.

Waterboarded Grin
Good idea re the plastic jug! DP suggested a watering can but I couldn't see how that would work Confused
That's another good idea about the tiles. Thank you! So many lovely helpful people on this thread Smile

❤️ my rainfall shower

I don't recall the brand of mine. It came with a pseudo-Victorian surface mixer (since binned)

I wonder if this would fit, or something similar (I presume they do it in Chrome) or if they offer some other accessory.

Plumbing screw fittings are usually in BSP thread The nominal size is much smaller than the real size, because (e.g.) a half-inch BSP nut is the size that would fit on the outside of a steel pipe of half-inch internal bore. So it's about three-quarters of an inch internal diameter, and about an inch across.

What's your bath like? If it's against a wall would you be able to add a riser shower over the bath as an option? Just a thought x

RandomMess · 10/10/2018 18:04

I would hate this too, I do the whole hair washing with minimal splashes on my face too. Plumbers were very difficult over how low I wanted the bottom end of the rail riser even after I explained why Confused had to dictate that they put it where I wanted it in the end.

I have thick bum length hair that I plait before using shower cap. I found an amazing thick one in a £1 store, bloody brilliant and has survived visits with horrid rainfall overhead shower heads.

RandomMess · 10/10/2018 18:06

Seriously I know it looks ridiculous but it works!

Loving the shower cap RandomMess! (And it took me a while to realise you didn't write 'thick bum hair'! Smile)

RandomMess · 10/10/2018 18:21

Grin honestly it's very embarrassing to wear but it's hot industrial strength elastic to keep it secure and it's thick plastic completely water tight plus you can dry if off and pack it back into your suitcase!

PigletJohn that's all very technical and has gone over my head but I will show all your suggestions to my plumber. Thanks again.

bobkate the bath is a freestanding one with one of those waterfall taps (not sure what the obsession with rainfall and waterfall is Shock) so can't even do that. But thanks Sad

Random I read it as thick bum hair too Grin. Gosh I thought I had long hair! So is that the one you found in the pound shop? Is it seriously that large? It says its for kids! Willing to try anything though. Has anyone seen you in it? Grin

Yep it is definitely the one and it is smaller than all our other ones (for home use with our wonderful low showers so just splash resistant).

It's plenty big enough for head plus plait Confused

Yes it has been witnessed and very much mocked on many occasion Blush
