Which flat would you go for...and how much would you offer? Glasgow

We are considering relocating from London to Glasgow. Top of budget would be £400k, we're not in a chain.

I really like the west end (doesn't everyone!) and we could afford something there - I think. But the 'offers over' system scares me a bit! Places going for way way over the home report price etc.

Plus Glasgow doesn't seem to be slowing in the same way as the market round here is. And also...Brexit.

So eg: out of these two, which would you go for and would £400k be doable?

traditional west end tenement

bigger but a little bit further out

I would really love a tenement but I hear a lot of stories about how they're a nightmare to heat etc. The Anniesland flat is huge but I prefer Hyndland as an area.

I love that building in anniesland. I always wish I could get a run down of all the people who have lived there! I don't much like anniesland though.

Hyndland all the way.

West End - as its ground floor, where is the entrance to the garden? If it's under the flat you will freeze unless the heating system is very good. But, you could re-configure the flat so that bedroom two is the kitchen and enjoy outside light in most of the other rooms.
No experience of the area of flat two, sorry.

I suppose the room with the en-suite would work quite well as a guest room. I just love the kitchen/dining room set-up in that flat.

Nope, no rentals. Been renting my whole life, it's time to own, finally!

It's so helpful to get this info though, so thank you!

Are you willing to do any work? There’s some lovely houses on the south side that are in your budget but would need a new kitchen, bathroom etc. Loveable but last decorated circa 1970.

*Liveable! Certainly not loveable. Angry

The Langside flat is in a good location; a 5-10 minute walk to Shawlands & all the amenities. So not quite on your doorstep as Strathbungo would be, but pretty close enough.

The surrounding streets towards Shawlands & Queens Park are nice too eg Millbrae, Bellwood & Camphill.

This one's a stoater too:
Shawhill Road, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, G41

I know both of those locations really well. They're not that far apart really. Parking can be an issue in Hyndland, less of an issue in Great Western Road. There are railway stations at both Anniesland and Hyndland station is just through Gartnavel grounds.

Both flats are lovely and it comes down to style - do you prefer the victorian tenements, or the 1930s Kelvin court?

I lived very near the Shawhill Road one and I lived in Strathbungo for a year (worth it for the name Grin )

I'm off for a Rightmove searchie

I'd kill to live in the West end, it's unlikely for me so I'm concentrating on Knightswood.
I'm not buying though.
The Southside is lovely, has so much going for it and will get more, but it's not the West end.

Have to agree with IHaveBrillo The West End is the best end Lots of logical reasons for south side etc but really can’t beat the West End

Edinburgh is even better, of course. 🙃
