How to paint a radiator?

It has got a quick dry gloss paint on it which has dried very badly and there are little bits and bumps and patches on it. Entirely my fault as I didn't take nearly enough care over it! Lesson learned. I know I'll need to sand it and start over but I'd appreciate advice: searches on the internet suggest that wet sanding is best for metal but I'm not sure what that is, what exactly I need to buy, or how to do it! If anyone can tell me exactly what to get/buy and how to do this job (I need to do it today if poss) I'd be very grateful!

wet-and-dry abrasive paper is mostly used on car bodywork, so is sold in places like Halfords. You dip it in water before starting work, and frequently during use to wash off the sludge of paint particles.

600 grade will smooth good paint but you may need a coarser grade (lower number) if you have big gobbets to remove.

A sponge is available with the same coating which is useful on surfaces that are not flat.

You will need an anti-corrosion primer before repainting. All water must be dried off first.

Screwfix sell wet and dry paper in packs - it's not expensive.
