Would love traditional interior doors, but have a 1950's house

Hi,

Love all things traditional, but have a 1950'd house. 4 panel Victorian door won't work, nor 1930's doors. I was thinking something similar to this as it's pretty generic? Any ideas gratefully received.

Hope this is a better angle!

I just googled "1959s internal doors" and your pic is v similar to what came up. Yours looks nice!

There used to be a Post War homes Appreciation, might be worth tracking down. I love my 1956 ex.met house and am trying to justify the cost of the new, more authentic interior and exterior doors.

Thanks duds, 1950's have 4 panels but I'm not keen. Pic attached.

Also proud owner of a 50s house and have been embracing it's "period features". I'm lucky in that I love the four panel doors, but I think the one you have a picture of is a good alternative that wouldn't look out of place.

Is this any good?

Apologies. Can't do links.

Thanks genetics, but that link takes me through to 1930's doors?

I think the pictures you have posted are fine. I love the four panelled door though !

goldinthemtherestars · 06/10/2018 15:55

The pictures you posted look the same to me as the 1930s doors in the link (apart from being painted). Either way, I think the ones in your picture would go well, even if not strictly 1950s.

We have a 1950s house and have the 4 panel doors. They really suit the house well.
But the first ones you linked to (which my friend has in her 30s property) would suit too.

user1499523365 · 06/10/2018 16:40

Thanks everyone. I don't think the ones in my pictures are 1930's though?! Hope not. Trying to convince myself on the 1950's door, but can't! Glad there's still love for them though....

Your bottom picture is (as far as I know) 1930s or 1930's style....

user1499523365 · 07/10/2018 13:13

This one hippio? These are 1950's. 30's is a panel across top and three panels underneath.

I have a 50s house. Some of the internal doors have 4 panels with glass in them

hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 07/10/2018 16:01

No, your very first pictures, in your posts of 12.10 and 12.12 on Saturday. I know the 4 panel is 1950s, that is the one I have!!
Confused

user1499523365 · 07/10/2018 16:27

Oh really. I'll have to check back with supplier. They were called 'American New Maine', they said the style wasn't typical of the 1930 era. How they're not!

OP posts:
hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 07/10/2018 18:24

Maybe they are going by American eras? Or maybe 1930s have finer bottom panels?
I would go with what you like.
People in the 1950s would have had access to doors that may resemble 1930s doors? Therefore it would not look out of place?

Your house, and I bet it will look gorgeous!

:)

Knitwit101 · 07/10/2018 19:36

The first 2 photos you put, we have those doors in our 1940s bungalow. They look fine. We have frosted glass in the top panels in the living rooms and bathroom for some light. I don't know if they are anything like the original doors but they look fine. They don't look out of place at all

LittleBLUEsmurfHouse · 07/10/2018 20:52

Everything I can find on the 1 over 2 panel doors suggests they were also 1930's doors (like the 1 over 3 panel someone posted).

1950's were shaker 4 or 5 panel doors.

But does it really matter it's only 20years difference and in the 50's they would still have had access to 30's and 40's doors.
