Garden backing onto playing fields?

We've been looking at houses and seen one we really like. However, the back garden backs directly onto the local school playing fields, which also has rugby on in the evenings sometimes. There's floodlights right outside the back fence!

Would this put you off, or does anyone else live with this? What concerns me is the crap view and the noise. That said I used to live directly next door to a school playground and quite liked it.

Any experiences / opinions appreciated.

We have a sixth form college playing field behind our house. It never causes us any bother and is blissfully peaceful in hoildays. In the town where I live it is considered a major bonus to have no houses behind you and adds substantial value. The college did install some bright security lighting, but adjusted its settings after contacted by the neighbours and I can honestly say that as neighbours, the college are the among the most considerate we've had. It definitely would not put me off buying near a playing field again.

It depends whether they hire the field out at all. I'd want to know how much use it gets.

There is a considerable chance that it will get sold off and filled with compact executive homes crammed tightly together.

Land with predictable usage is always good.

Our garden backs onto the playing field of the local school. It’s lovely and it will be one of the main things I will miss about this house when we upsize in a few years.

House 1. Backed onto local recreation ground. Over the years the trees grew and we couldn't see much. Football matches at the weekend with the odd tournament. School field behind the houses to the front of us. No issues.

Current house: Back onto playing field, can hear them in the day , but no real disturbance.

I quite like it.

There's a rugby pitch behind the playing fields that have rugby every weekend, including Friday nights. The noise wouldn't bother me I don't think (quite like noise like that) but worry it would keep my son awake.

There’s a school sports pitch behind mine. Tall trees
Floodlights always out by about 8:30/9 at the lastest.
Blissful in summer

PigletJohn, won't be sold off, it's a redevelopment of the current fields, in the local grammar school, and the rugby grounds are a local landmark.

You can find out if the flood lights have a timer to go off at a set time. We had floodlights installed at our hockey pitch and the lights went off automatically at 9.05pm every night because of the closeness of the lights to local residents.

We have woods behind us with a football ground very nearby, and 5-a-side pitches with floodlights until 9pm. The trees block a lot of the light in summer but I really like it - the park is well lit until past when I get home from work, I like the sound of people playing and it's much nicer than having other people's houses. I don't think it would keep a child awake, I remember going to sleep with the sound of older kids playing outside when I was little.

A view of a playing field would count as a good view for me, not a negative!
