Did you know it was “the one” when you viewed your house?

I think I’ve phrased the title badly. We are FTB with an ok deposit so can afford a decent size fixer upper or small ready done.

Everyone keeps saying “you’ll know when you see it/you’ll walk in and fall in love” etc.

Did you have a feeling like this when you saw your house for the first time?

Each house I’m viewing is good for the budget/market but nothing takes my breath away, but it couldn’t really without a massive budget, could it?!

Maybe part of the problem is that my parents are very wealthy and so my childhood home where they still live is my idea of a perfect home.

It looks very spacious, congratulations!

We're currently in process of buyingvour 3rd house. We both loved the 1st one but had to relocate. 2nd house just ticked boxes but over the years we've made it as fabulous as it can be. 3rd and last house hopefully ticks more boxes and we know we can turn it into an amazing home. I did see two houses this time round that gave me that feeling but one was way over budget though we did try a cheeky offer, the other house was at top of budget but would mean relocating kids school plus a compromise as it had no downstairs bedroom.
Can't wait to get into house3 and get started on it!

I'm for being practical.
When we were house hunting I was interested in: structural integrity, lack of damp problems, proper heating or potential for it, absence of serious anti social behaviour in the immediate area.
It will feel like yours once all your stuff is in it.

I hadn’t actually seen my house til I got the keys (friend had done a viewing for me) it was absolutely like an arranged marriage and has worked out really well! I think ‘the one’ is for when you have more money. I can’t see myself being able to afford ‘the one’ for about 20 years - i can dream about it though!

One that ticks all the boxes. To answer your question I knew we had found the dream property after seeing a number of different ones and asking questions.
I essentially compromised on some non essential things. I recommend checking out the property descriptions online and in the papers too.
Communication is vital here. And a decent estate agent too. Eventually we made a decision on our property. It was a lovely place. Be prepared to make a lot of phone calls.
For me personally the question of logistics was a real puzzle. I wanted a home in which we can tell stories and hold parties in as well. A family feeling mattered. We chose a spacious flat by the riverside. But if I’m being completely honest here, we didn’t do enough research on estate agents.

I love our current house and I'm usually quite an unemotional person who rolls my eyes at the people on the property programmes who are searching for 'the feeling'. Previous properties were the best we could afford or the best that ticked all the boxes, but this one I just wanted from the moment I walked in.
