Ground floor flat owner complaining about 2 flats above being let

The guy moved in a year ago and is a lawyer. He knew the flat above was let and can be according to the lease. The tenants are excellent but recently he has complained that the washing machine is on too much. I live on the top so he needs to take it up with the owner of the middle flat not me.
Surely you could have an issue with a washing machine whether rented or owner occupied? Why did he buy it ? he could afford a detached house if he wants privacy

Do you own a share of the freehold? If not, it's not your problem.

Washing machine usage is standard domestic noise. He can complain to the council’s noise team if he really wants to, but so long as it’s in normal daytime hours he won’t get anywhere.

Why is he complaining to you?

FrogFairy · 02/10/2018 14:50

The tenant could put an anti vibration mat under their washing machine to try to minimise noise and it would be neighbourly not to run the machine during anti social hours but other than that it is normal living noise.

You can get pads to put under the washing machine legs, they are noisy when they rattle around but it's the fault of the crap build quality not the tenants, he will know this, maybe they can hear him too.

He could ask the people living in the flat nicely if they would put underneath an anti vibration mat (which he has bought). And also ask they don't put it on overnight maybe.

Apart from that, kinda just have to suck it up.
