Hi, can anyone share exeriences of Letchworth and/or StChris school? We’re thinking of moving from London for ds to start reception there. We are an arty, vegan, international family and I get the impression thay Letchworth has a bit of an alternative and environmental community, we saw a tattoo Coffee shop, bulk buy store and vegan restaurant. Any thoughts? Thanks all!

Letchworth in my opinion is a lovely place, we have family there.

The school is great, I would highly recommend - one of mine is there but in the senior school. However Letchworth is pretty average- for that type of community in my opinion you would be far better to move to Mill Road area in Cambridge which would be right up your street. It would be a bit of a pain to drive but not impossible and there are school buses. There are some North London kids at St Chris too, various offspring of actors etc

Letchworth is lovely. Fabulous bookshop. Heaps going on for all ages. From moon drumming to poker to tai chi to reading plays aloud.
Cinema. Woody parky Common for dog walking. Open air swimming pool. 38mins to kings x. A1 a few mins away.

The heritage part of Letchworth is bloody gorgeous too

We moved to Letchworth from London and we love it. The place has so much going for it, especially for families. The Greenway route, the restored Broadway cinema, Standalone farm, the lido pool in Norton Common to name a few. The Letchworth Heritage Trust is always organising something to keep people entertained in the summer holidays or sometimes at weekends. It's generally a nice place to be.

Thanks everyone so far. Really appreciate your thoughts. Are there any areas we should specifically avoid house-wise? And where is more desireable within station walking distance?

Wrath makes a desirable place OP? Tell me your criterion.
Dog walking park nearby?
Close to St Chris?
Close to A1?
Period property?

We need to be walking distance from station and have looked north west of station near the common. Is that a nice area? Have read on other threads that there are three estates that should be avoided. If true, do you know Where they are? Thought we could probably cycle to stChris. Seems a cycle friendly place.

We are north Herts/Cambs border and St Chris is seen as where you send your kids if they can't hack it at the Cambridge private schools. Not worth the money IMO but I don't know what the state options are like in Letchworth.

Letchworth is fab though, close to London, fab swimming pool and we love the greenway.

I'd guess the "avoid if poss" estates are Jackmans, Lordship and the Grange

South generally better than north (older)

Yes cycling but it is not Cambs!

Lovely lovely roads within waking distance of school and station:
Lytton Ave
Souberie Ave
Field lane
Sollershott East
Pixmore Ave (just)
The road along the Common has good houses and is nice but is q busy
Norton road north and south are nice

Pm me your budget and needs - I love a good house hunt. I'm buying there - due to complete next week gulp

@NotAnotherJaffaCake that's what I would have said before I had a DC with MH issues who was academically capable but needed a less pressured environment to thrive. St Chris is not academically selective but bright kids can do well there.
