having double glazing fitted in winter

I need a new patio door and kitchen/bathroom windows fitted before the end of December but am wondering if I have left it too late due to the oncoming cold weather. Does anyone have direct experience of having windows fitted in November December time/ I am concerned that I will not get as good job as if they were done more ideally in the warmer months, due to difficulty with the cold causing problems for the fitters and the sealant drying.

I had ten windows and two doors fitted in February while it was snowing.

It never occurred to me that could be an issue, they were installed at the stage of the build that we were ready.

Thanks bawbles

I had our windows and doors replaced in February, it was freezing but they got on with the job and have had no issues. We also got a reasonable discount for having them fitted in winter.

We had windows put in last week - it took two days, they did one room each at a time. I tried to be out of the house as much as possible and when they were finished the house was a bit chilly but no need for the heating. I imagine snow or rain would make it more miserable for the fitters? It’s really not as disruptive for you as you might think.

Thanks for the replies, it's been very helpful.

Just ask them to do one room at a time and do your main living area first/last. You don’t want them taking all the windows out in one go.

We had all windows and doors fitted across 2 pretty cold days in December. No issues for the fitters as far as I know. It was fairly windy which meant we had quite a lot of debris in the house once they were done but nothing that a good hoover didn’t rectify.
Just make sure you’ve got jumpers and slippers on if you’re sitting in while they fit!

Thank you everyone, OH worries we wont get as good a job as we would if it was done in the Spring as the fitters will be working in the cold but it looks like it should be okay to do, will make sure we have plenty of warm clothes and the kettle on. Grin

We've only ever had them done in Jan. You can get some real bargains and it's a pretty quick job so you're not cold for long.
