Driveway would you go with this quote?

So, we want our driveway extending (currently half is block paved and half is garden). We've had 4 quotes, 2 from well known, local, reputable companies. Both were very expensive, between 5-8k, just to gravel half of it, both had different ideas on how best to go about it too in terms of us needing a retaining wall. Third quote from unknown company they wanted 6k for the whole lot plus more if we needed a wall.

They also can't start any work until next Spring! But they've got loads of good reviews on check a trade etc.

We've had a really cheap quote of just over 3k and that's to re block pave the whole lot, but, he was on about reusing the old bricks and mix them in with the new ones. He could also start next week, though apparently was booked up until Xmas after that) hmm Hmm

However he's actually done a drive a few doors up, that's were I found their details and it looks fine, though I guess only time will tell.

He's got a proper website with loads of photos of his work, but I can't find any reviews, or any info at all pre 2016.

Would you take a chance? Seems a bit too good to be true.

No, if it seems too good to be true, then it generally is. It is far better to pay out, and get the job done professionally, than pay out for mistakes.

I agree. We're in exactly the same situation, have a quote which is miles cheaper than the others. Whilst we're tempted, if it was poor and we had to do it again, it would be a disaster financially.

Check out some others.

No. Dont do it.
We had quotes last year to do our shared driveway with neighbour. It was complicated. Think joint bit at bottom opening out into 2 x2 car spaces, one on a slope.
Our quotes were 10k, 8k and one at 3k.
We went with the 8k. A year on, cheap quote man did a few in our area that are coming apart and nowhere to be seen.

I don't know much about driveways but from seeing the ones on our street I would imagine a block paved one would last a damn site better than one covered in gravel. The gravel drives around here spread it around every time a car drives on and off it.

I would look at other companies who would do a block paved drive, 5-8k for 1/2 a gravel drive is a bloody rip off! Shock
