Kitchen floor and walls!

Help hive mind of Mumsnet, as I'm about to chuck in the towel!

Having anew kitchen fitted. Grey/green colour, shaker style. Quite a lot of cupboards but in a naturally well lit room. Have chosen original wood worktops as they go best with the units.

For the life of me, I can't chose wall or flooring tiles.

I don't want wood floor as I think it will look odd with worktops.

I'd love a bold patterned tile, but with a big area to cover, scared it will look like a magic eye puzzle.

I think we will do white metro on the walls behind counters to keep it clean and fresh.

Should I consider LVT. I love this one in the pic, but I'm scared of fitting a blooming expensive kitchen and ruining it with Lino.

Help! What kitchen floor did you choose?

I'm not quite sure I understand the ruin it with Lino (Vinyl) flooring comment? It's like comparing floorboards and laminate flooring....they are good for what they are good for

Vinyl is warm, easy to clean and lasts very well if you get a good quality with a decent wear layer. Also if you drop something it's much more likely to survive hitting the ground than on Ceramic tiles

We do actually have ceramic tiles in our kitchen purely as they were there when we moved in and the kitchen is in good condition so no plans to change however we have had Vinyl ( wide oak plank ) layed in the adjoining dining room and it works very well it's comfortable underfoot and also as we chose one of decent thickness is also sound absorbing so the room is quieter than it was previously with tiles.

Order some samples online I can suggest the companies we used as the quality was brilliant and the price outstanding compared to buying on the high street so to speak

I think that Harvey Maria floor looks great, but it draws your eye and you barely notice the rest. Do they do it in a lighter shade which would work?

We have stone painted wood units, oak worktop, cream metro tile splashback and a darker oak finish LVT floor. We too have a large floor area and it’s a naturally well-lit room.

I was in a similar quandary as you - wanted the patterned encaustic tiles but scared they would mark too easily in a heavily trafficked area (and we are v careless as a family). So I've gone for LVT oak - can't do real wood as it would be ruined within months, we are always spilling water etc. But we're having a quartz worktop so no wood clash. If I had more confidence I woukd go with encaustic, they are gorgeous.

I've seen the harvey maria IRL, they're nice but a bit lightweight for a kitchen, I think better suited to a bathroom? Would you consider terracotta? Some of the reclaimed tiles are lovely.

Sorry, no much help, I've had 40+ tile samples and still not chosen my splashback...

We have greeny grey units with cream metro tiles and slate flooring. Works very well with a muddy spaniel!

We have wood worktops too.

If you want bold flooring you can do your wall metro tiles in straight lines rather than more common brick formation. I think it looks more modern and it's less eye catching.

@Moonflower12 - do you have a pic? Sounds very similar!

In terms of 'ruin' I guess I'm still thinking of vinyl being the nasty stuff in my grandma's kitchen. May need to order samples to convince myself of quality.

Interesting that the pattern may be too bold...my worry is that without something strong, the room will be too bland. One to think about
