Best electric wall heaters- advice please!

I have a small BTL property that currently has storage heaters (no mains gas) they haven't been too costly to run for the tenants but would like to replace with more slimline efficient units, especially as one has died in the spare bedroom. Want to get mains wired for safety & to stop anyone walking off with them 😁
TIA
Anyone had this & any recommendations appreciated!

Electric heaters are all equally efficient. They all turn 1kWh of electricity into 1kWh of heat.

What do you mean by "best?"

Most expensive?

Most attractive?

Hi PigletJohn

Sorry to not be more specific, as you can tell, I'm clueless hence asking for advice.Smile

As this is the only heat source, I'm looking for the most efficient replacement for night storage heaters, preferably not too bulky, that can be programmed & have individual thermostats.

Have seen many that seem to fit the bill but am struggling to find a company that will advise, supply & fit said units so thought I would ask around & buy them myself & get a qualifier electrician to fit them.

Storage heaters would be cheaper than using peak energy to warm a room, assuming the storage heaters don't lose all of the heat before it's needed.
Another option would be a heat pump of some kind which works like an air conditioner in reverse with the hot part indoors. But they cost more to fit AnD maintain.
Gas heating is nearly always going to be cheaper to run once you have taken the cost of installation out of the equation, assuming there is a gas supply.

Dimplex seems to be considered a good brand. You can get an idea of prices on
www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Heating_Index/Storage_Heaters/index.html

The same company also owns the Glen, Creda and Morphy Richards brands.

There are companies that offer a supply-and-fit service, the ones I have looked at make extravagant claims and are overpriced. You may see their ads on TV and the Sunday papers.

The UK storage heater trade is somewhat in decline, because everybody knows gas is so much cheaper. You can often pick up used ones for nothing on Freegle. The heaters are heavy but they are made so you can open the case and take out the bricks, after which the heater is light and you put the bricks back during reinstallation.

your tenants will need to set up the right electricity tariff, economy 7 at least and ideally economy 10. The latter takes a lot of arguing as most call-centre people aren't told about it, but it is there with some providers.

tenants also need to know how to use the heaters. As PigletJohn says, do not fall for claims of extra efficiency.

I lived in a place with night storage. It is possible to stay warm.

Thanks all. No gas mains to the house, all electric. They are on Economy 7

Was just looking for a replacement for the one that has died ( had it checked by an electrician the element has burnt out) and wondered if upgrading it to a more modern electric radiator would be more efficient.

My plan was to have one in each room with a thermostat & timer so the heat is more controllable. A friend has all electric & says their bills have gone down.

Ah now DoILook I saw these very ones in my search this afternoon , are they wired in rather then plugged? Will be interested to see what you think of them - did you have just the one installed or multiples?

PigletJohn No, it wasn't just a straightforward element swap, he would have been able to do that but it had burnt through some of the surrounding casing. He was supposed to be looking at a new unit for me storage AND new electric so I could compare prices but he didn't get back to me. TBH these storage heaters are bulky & inefficient, compared to the new ones hence looking to upgrade.

They also come on & blast out heat at the wrong time of day for most people so I'd rather have individual room heaters so the tenants can control exactly when they come on/off & at what temps. The house is well insulated & it is only just starting to get chilly in there in the mornings & evenings & they say they're happy to bung another jumper on for now! They still have several working storage heaters in the other rooms.

They’re wired in ( used an electrician )
One in our bedroom , one in DDs
DH can control them from an app on his phone !
We’ve only had then about a week. So far , so good
