How long do cast iron radiators take to heat up?

I'm looking at cast iron radiators but I've read they take a long time to heat up. I can't find online any information about just how long they take though.

Anyone got any experience of this?

How long do they take to heat up, please?

We have them - I couldn't give you an exact time, but I've never felt that the house doesn't warm up quickly enough. I think the thermostat is set for about 15 minutes before we come in. They hold heat for a while after switching off too. To be fair, we did replace really old style rads, so it's not like I can compare than directly with efficient contemporary styles. I'd install them again happily.

We do have very good water pressure and a quite large capacity boiler - I'm not sure if that makes a difference!

That's good to know, thank you.

They're really beautiful but very expensive I might treat myself, maybe.

If anyone else has any experiences etc, I'd really welcome hearing your thoughts Grin

I have two fairly large cast iron radiators, which were newly bought about 10years ago, not old Victorian ones, which may be a little clogged up inside and that could affect the speed they heat up.

I've never timed it, but they seem to heat up very quickly, a few minutes, no more. They also retain the heat for a decent period of time after the heating has gone off.

That's good to know, thank you.

I have visions of waiting hours for them to start heating up Grin

Another weird question... so they're really heavy aren't they? How did you get them into your house... how many people did it take? The one I'm looking at for the living room is 96kg Shock

Yep, they are bloody heavy! Two people I think.
Make sure you get wall stay brackets, to ensure they remain in place.

Very heavy! My husband had to help our heating guy move the bigger ones. We have wall stays on the taller radiators.

We have a few in our house. I think ours were more for look than function as it's a fairly new house so quite warm anyway. I feel they take longer to heat but do retain the heat for longer.
