Have they used the right tiles?

i have a roofer replacing some broken tiles this week, among a few other jobs. They've used a few spare tiles that were left in the shed from the previous owner, which matched the ones in place - they were thick, heavy and textured - and they're also using some of their own tiles. These two in the picture are ones they've supplied and they look smooth to me, rather than textured. Have they used the wrong thing, and would it be reasonable to ask them to source tiles like the originals? I don't know if they're even able to buy ones the same as it's a 1930s house.

No photos OP - I checked the app too as sometimes it depends how someone has posted.

No pics OP but I live in a similar house and have the same thick heavy & textured tiles. They are still available and we've had an extension built with more of these on to match the existing. Even if your builders needed a few additional tiles they should all match in size/shape/profile.

Sorry, here it is ...

It would be great if someone could tell me the name of the thick textured ones so I can find them online and send a link to the builder. I want to sound like I know what I'm talking about when I ask about it.

That looks lousy - I'd just say you want the tiles matching up.

Trumpelina · 25/09/2018 21:36

I believe they're called 'sanded' tiles. Your builder should be able to get a better match than these

shoutyandstroppy · 25/09/2018 21:37

Well they're obviously not going to be weathered like the old ones, but they do at least need to be the same type of tiles. Anyone know what the thick textured ones are called? @Trumpelina @wowfudge

Sorry - cross posted. Thanks Trumpelina. I'll look them up.

That looks awful. I'd definitely expect them to get a better match than that!

Fairylea · 25/09/2018 22:43

That looks awful. They should match a lot better than that!

I just went back to our surveyor's report, and he said the tiles are clay rather than concrete like the ones in that link. Can clay and concrete tiles look very similar and be interchangeable?

I wouldn't 'interchange' tiles. You want to keep to all the same kind, so they all behave the same for expansion/contraction etc. Also, concrete tiles are very heavy compared to clay which can have a bad effect on the roof in terms of extra weight. Though it looks like you only need a couple, best stick to the same.
