Water-damaged boiler

We have a combi boiler that was fitted 1 and a half years ago. On Thursday the boiler started leaking water and we had to switch it off. We have a guarantee on the boiler so called them and they came out today. They said that the problem is that the condensate pipe wasn't correctly fitted, so in the heavy rain last week the water backed up and flooded the boiler. He said some of the parts might be okay once they've dried out but to repair it will be well over £1000 in parts alone. We've tried to get in touch with the installer but he is away on holiday. Meanwhile we have no heating or hot water and we have 2 children in the house, including a baby. What's our best course of action here? Do we need to wait till the installer comes back and try to make him fix it as it was his fault, or could we pay to have it fixed and claim the money back? It will make things tight financially if we have to pay and can't get the money back.

Husband is a gas engineer and he says you need to get the installer back to fix the boiler at his own cost.. he hasn't installed it according to the manufacturer instructions by the sound of it. If he refuses to fix it you can report him to Gas Safe for this. What's the make of the boiler?
Unfortunately that doesn't solve your problem of no heating and water... maybe plug in electric heaters and boil the kettle for washes.

Thank you roley . The boiler is Vaillent, the installer is currently in Australia, not sure how long for but I think that's the way we'll have to go. Can't afford to swallow the cost ourselves when the boiler is only a year old.

It may be worth a phone call to Gas Safe anyway for their advice on the matter. Fully agree you shouldn't have to cover any costs for an installer error (regardless of how old the boiler is.. especially only a year!)
