Cant decide between these two options, so help me decide. Also suggest anything i should change. third image gives idea of overall room. the three tall units are fridge, oven and pantry.

One thing i dont want to do, is put sink or hob on peninsula because we are very messy family Blush

Not sure if I've spotted all the differences but looks like its a toss up between extra window or extra cupboards on the wall where the hobs are?

Unless it's a really gloomy room I'd go extra cupboards every time.

HeyMacWey · 24/09/2018 15:22

I'd go with the second one.

Having the sink and hob on the same run in the first picture wouldn't be the best use of space.

HeyMacWey · 24/09/2018 15:25

I agree - do you need so many windows? I'd replace those on the wall with the hob on with cupboards.

HeyMacWey · 24/09/2018 15:27

I've just looked again - on the second picture they are cupboards (I thought they were windows). I'd have them along the whole wall instead of two random ones. If you're messy then don't get glass doors.

mum2015 · 24/09/2018 15:28

room is fairly bright as the other window is over 2mx1.3m and faces south.

1st option

  • extra window
  • no wall cupboard
  • dishwasher is just right of sink

2nd option

  • missing second window.
  • two wall cupboards each 80cmx100cm
  • dishwasher is on peninsula so not exactly next to sink, but on right turn.

I prefer the first option. I don't like top cupboards in kitchens as I always used to bang my head on the open doors after bending down. I think kitchens look better with either no top cupboards at all, or open shelving.

mum2015 · 24/09/2018 15:37

i cant have cupboards along whole wall. there is boiler on left corner after three tall units so need to leave space to access/maintain it and there is 40cm window on right corner.

The extractor will be either fully integrated in wall cupboards or like the one shown in attached picture. I can get opaque door or frosted glass door for wall cupboards.

option-3 with more storage, but less worktop, no upper cabinet

Option 3 gives you a weird waste of space inaccessible corner? If you're going to put full height cupboards there, at least take them properly round the corner. Option 2 is better though with more work surface. I'd switch the sofa and the dining table around too.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 24/09/2018 18:55

Not sure I like any of them. Sorry

mum2015 · 24/09/2018 19:33

That inaccessible corner has boiler. I have left bareminimum space to reach it.

I that case, definitely don't have tall units on the wall at right angles to it.

Bimgy85 · 24/09/2018 20:47

First option. As many cupboards as possible

flirtygirl · 24/09/2018 21:33

The first looks better as option two the cupboards look added on last minute and bitty (if that's a word). Option 3 is awful.

flirtygirl · 24/09/2018 21:34

Also an extractor not in a cupboard looks best. So many nice styles nowadays but a chimney one is always a good solid fallback.

mum2015 · 25/09/2018 11:56

what about this layout? lots of storage though hob and sink are around 3m away.

I have my hob on my island. I love facing the room whilst cooking, it's so sociable. If no one is in the room I get to look at the garden.
Is moving the hob an option?

I cook a lot of str fry kind of food and i am worried about cooking smell. i need to fit an extractor venting out as close to external wall as possible and also if hob is on wall the steam from food is more contained. I am searching for some really good extractor and may be then i can put hob on island. May be something like this.

I much prefer that. It's so hard as kitchens are so personal.
We got lots of drawers and no wall cupboards although I love floor to ceiling units, it just didn't work for us.

Option 2 looks better. I don’t think you have space for an island unless you might ed the kitchen out into your sofa area.

LittleBLUEsmurfHouse · 25/09/2018 20:05

Option 2.

mum2015 · 25/09/2018 21:07

So far option 2 has got more votes.

bobkate · 25/09/2018 22:30

I think I prefer option 2 but i couldn't tell you why!

bobkate · 25/09/2018 22:31

As in I'm not sure what makes me prefer that one...!

mum2015 · 26/09/2018 02:46

It could be that option 2 is symmetrical so you like it. I was thinking of option one first as we already have a door+window in that space, but then I thought if we put our daily use cups/glasses/plates in drawer it would take me longer to unload dishwasher as I would need to properly arrange those.
